Do you only have one chance to get it? In other words, if you fail on the criteria, but complete the mission, can you run again for the drop?

You can try as many times as it takes. I tried soloing it twice then got a group and tried 2 more times before I got it lol

You can't fail the criteria without it kicking you back to orbit

Yes you can! It kicks you to Orbit and you have to start from scratch.
