I agree with his overall point. In the end, there's nothing wrong with precaution in light of everything that's happened over the years. And I also don't place any blame on the teacher who reported the kid. However, this incident still has a clear chain of stupidity attached to it that can't be overlooked. Anyone could take a closer look at the "bomb" and see that there was no explosive material within it. And let's face it.. the damn thing looks more like a movie or cartoon version of an IED than anything we're actually seeing being used. So I don't blame the teacher. I don't even blame the principle for contacting the police. Neither of these two are qualified to make that call and they have school procedures that they're required to follow. But are you seriously telling me that the cops were fooled enough to actually arrest the kid? Seriously?
