OK, so nevermind the EULA that stays they can change the terms and require you to make purchases to maintain full access to the game. Whether we like it or not, that's there.
The crux of the conversation is whether or not a service is being provided by Bungie. You say no, Destiny is just a game. I say there are service elements in that they have to upkeep servers and provide new content.
I was most interested in your thoughts on that particular concept, as I find it hard to imagine that you truly believe the level of "service" requires between Mario and Destiny is the same.
