I think it has something to do with a large portion of the younger generation. They expect everything new and exciting to be just handed to them. It isn't fair if other people get it and I don't, they say. Even if they paid for it. And they don't have the money to do so because they don't want to work for it. It's pitiful. I guess it's because the law wouldn't allow their parents to beat them anymore. Worked on my generation.

I think it has more to do with the fact that as children, they would get whatever they wanted whenever they wanted it. When they didn't, they would bitch and moan to their parents, the same way they do on these forums, and their parents would break down and give in.
