Hey Anon-- After reading thorn and last word 4 I am more convinced than ever that Jaren became Dredgen....

  • Dredgen was the man that came into the group..... the weak and broken man. This has literally been confirmed.

  • Which card are you referring to?

  • TLW 4 GameInformer in conjunction with Bungie said this about Dredgen
He starts murdering other guardians as well as innocents. His old friend, Jaren Ward, hunts him down and duels him with the hand cannon called The Last Word, but Jaren is killed. Subsequently, Jaren’s protégé, a Hunter named Shin Malphur, takes up The Last Word, tracks Dredgen Yor, and they fight. Dredgen Yor is apparently killed.
Which is literally what was shown to us in the Grimoire today

  • You need to read Thorn 4. It shows the dialogue between Dredgen and his ghost. They talk about how Jaren and Dredgen shoot at each other and Dredgen survives. It is implied that the ghost gives Shin Malphur the Last Word as a "trophy" or Jaren's "sword" therefore explaining how he gets it.

I have read it several times. When Jarens ghost says his light has faded, why wouldn't he be with his body while making such a statement? Yor responds with, "his light is gone" then the ghost says "you are an infection" That back and forth sounds to me like the ghost is trying to reason with Jaren who has been infected by the darkness which is now Yor. There is an awful lot of conversation if the only point is for the ghost to take TLW to Malphur. Too many allusions for me to completely write the theory off. In any case I'm not dead set on them being the same person, I just keep reading and I get the feeling they are the same. The only piece that doesn't make sense to me is why the sound of Thorn was heard after TLW while Jaren was off and when he apparently died. It could indeed be Jaren being shot, but that begs the question of why would the ghost and Yor be talking about who shot first? The ghost would have been there to see what happened so why say he never misses? I still think there is more to what went on here. Maybe there was an epic duel between the two. Or maybe Jaren had thorn hidden in him the whole time and had multiple personalities for a period of time. Maybe it's like Fight Club? Maybe Jaren tried to kill the darkness inside of him, but instead Yor took over and shot himself with thorn to try and consume any light he had left? I dunno I just think there is more.

  • That's not Jarens ghost. In Thorn 4, Dredgen Yor is talking to HIS ghost. Jaren's ghost goes back to Shin and does not say anything to him in a previous grimoire card. There's basically no way you can say they're the same person as Dredgen and his ghost are talking here [u.2:0.8] He shot first. [u.1:0.9] Yet you stand. [u.2:0.9] Guess he missed. [u.1:1.0] He never misses. [u.2:1.0] First time for everything. [silence] [u.2:1.1] His cannon? Nice piece of hardware. [u.2:1.2] Well-worn, but clean. Smooth hammer. [u.1:1.1] It was his prize.

  • I'm saying it's extremely and increasingly unlikely that they're the same person given the latest grimoire.

  • Is there a card that describes when Malphur receives the gun?

  • Nothing directly as of now. Thorn 4 shows dredgen yor tells his ghost to give it to "the kid" aka shin malphur as his masters "sword" his master being Jaren Ward who he just killed.

  • Even more so in TLW 4. The stranger is clearly Dredgen as he mentions the stranger at the end when Shin kills him. The stranger – the other – arrived the following day. He rarely spoke. Took a room. Took our hospitality. I was intrigued by him, as I was Jaren when he’d first arrived.

  • Where did they make that official statement? I respect most of the stuff you post and read a ton of it....but even you have to admit there is way too much allusion in these new cards. Why would Jarens ghost be arguing with Dredgen? Why would the ghost plead with him about light still existing inside him? If Jaren fired first how would he miss if he never misses? I honestly think the language paints the inner struggle and ultimate takeover of the darkness turning Jaren into Dredgen. Jaren tried to kill himself and instead Dredgen emerged and prevented it from happening. Why else would Dredgen make a big deal about his new name in conversation and why would the ghost entertain talking to him?

  • Read Thorn 4. The dialogue between Dredgen and his Ghost show there are two people when Jaren dies.
