The game is full of one liners if you actually talk. They are portraying players. Sure the combat was more intense than actual gameplay. But live action stuff is awesome. And well done. Almost every videogame advert is overglorified, they want to catch people attention. Also, making the title of this post "No more Classic Rock", you and claiming not to attack classic rock in the post isn't a good way to boost your credibility.

  • Classic Rock schlock is the icing on the shit cake. And it is obvious these adverts are being designed around the songs.

  • Again. You keep attacking classic rock. But in your post you keep saying you aren't trying to attack a music genre. Your credibility is constantly draining.

  • It would be schlock regardless of the genre. I earlier mentioned it would have been equally bad with something like "Straight Outta Compton." Schlock is schlock by any number.

  • So...because you don't like the adverts...we aren't allowed to like the adverts? Because of a song? Regardless of genre? You're saying music ruins ads? So if an ad has music, of any genre, it's bad? I understand now...

  • I see why you are struggling, because an idiot would struggle with this basic concept. Let me slow down(also if you read the whole OP, I would not need to do this.) The Taken King is supposed to be this big thing that is happening. Oryx is this all powerful Hive God. The Deadnaught is this massive, terrifying moon sized ship filled with Eldritch horrors. And the proper tone for this? Horror, awe, wonder, fear? NOPE ROCKING SCHLOCK AND PUNCHY ONE LINERS BABY!!!! NOLANBOT, BLAST THE WASP CAUSE MLG PRO BRAH!!!! Its called tone, and the advert shows Destiny as a game with a different tone than it actually has. The advert is misleading as it shows Destiny as Guardians of the Galaxy-esque, yet they could not be more different.

  • Ah yes, the age old "insult the others intelligence to feel superior" arguement. Did you even listen to the advert at all? The Titan is super cocky and brave throughout the whole thing, fearless. That's the characters tone. Sure the mood of the set is dark. But as I said, the Titan shows no fear while on the ship...and he chose the music, so the music matches character tone, rather than atmospheric mood. He's just blasting enemies left and right while blasting a song of his choice. Much like many of us Guardians do. It's an ad, it has to be quick, catchy, and memorable. That's why companies have jingles or use certain songs. If you ever hear the song from the ad anywhere else...you'll remember the ad, and Destiny. That's why ads almost always have a song, jingle, or slogan. To be remembered. It's a psychology thing, and it works.

  • No one will remember these ads even 6 months from now. People STILL talk about Halo 3s adverts.

  • Avoid using definitives. Just because you won't remember, doesn't mean no one will remember. Someone will remember these ads. I still remember the first Destiny live action one, the "Immigrant Song" one...even though it's been longer than "6 months." Especially if I hear the song. Literally evertime I hear the song or something about Led Zeppelin, I think of Destiny. And sure people remember the Halo 3 ads even though the didn't have songs...but they had a slogan, "Believe." (Remember how I said jingles, songs, and slogans play a role in ads?) I can hear that word and remember that old ad campaign. Nostalgia also helps that...many fond memories of Halo 3. Whether you like it or not. Destiny's Led Zeppelin ads work. Psychology is fun, isn't it?

  • Lots of things "work" Whoring yourself to the masses with misleading adverts works. Of course it works. What I am saying is this: Destiny should be better.

  • If it works, it works, no stopping it. It's not really selling out either, it's fun little ad that shows how brave and chill the Guardians are, despite their horrific situations. You're looking at the ad from one side, you want specific gameplay in ads, you want them to show what the game is. That's fine, but that's what gameplay trailers are for. TV adverts are to say "Hey look, this exists." Which will get people looking further into the product. You just don't like the game...that's fine. But there's no reason to hate on the ads for it also. Here's an even better, really simple solution: "Don't like the ad...don't watch it."

  • Dont...like the game? Where did you get that idea? Although I an critical of the marketing of the game in this thread, I might be one of the most bullish people about the game on this whole site. I love Destiny. I love just about everything in it. I just hate the marketing.
