"Bungie, it's not me... It's you"

Bungie is up to their self-defeating tactics again. And of course, it's a little late now (having already preordered TTK), but I'm really tired of all the TTK content. Pre-release video content is really boring and incredibly self involved. But Bungie does a good job making you feel the need to watch so you're not behind the curve. I'm not trying to sound like a cranky old guy, but why can't a game or an expansion just come out and [i]then[/i] we explore the game play. It's like playing from day 1 of a release isn't good enough, you need to take a summer class first, do you're homework, pass a certification, and give Bungie a reach around so you're [i]really[/i] ready for day 1. Knowing what we know about TTK has also made playing Destiny for the past couple weeks seem pretty pointless. I would have been a lot more excited about TTK without the vids, twitch, updates on gameplay changes. I understand Bungie being excited, but pushing all this info is coming across as a little needy. I mean seriously Bungie - I promise, I'm excited too. But I would have been just as excited if you released a trailer and then let me buy the expansion (a topic for another day...). That's all I want. Not some clingy soon-to-be-ex trying convince me of all the reasons not to dump them. I mean, why do we need to have any gameplay details ahead of time, let's just leave something to the imagination until we buy it. Seeing the dreadnought before purchase only helps if you think someone isn't going to purchase. And the die hard fans you're showing [i]are[/i] going to purchase. So Bungie, I think I see where the problem is - everything you're releasing is targeted at the existing Destiny community (since technical details and improvements to gameplay only really matter if you are comparing it to current gameplay). So stop worrying about the community and start worrying about making money so you can keep your jobs and come out with more expansions. You're not the only game in town (haha, get it!) and people buy games for gameplay - people don't buy games for communities. And even if they did, your game doesn't have an in game community - you need external apps and websites to even be able to play parts of it. You didn't invent some new way for people to interact - you made a multi-player game. And it's a good game, and you're doing some new stuff designed to keep it fresh year after year. All that's great, but get over yourselves a bit - it's still just a game. I never have, nor ever will, want to see a video of a designer explaining any part of a game to me. Never mind multiple live streams with a live audience too. I don't care how it works until I'm playing. If I think it sucks are you going to make a change? Of course not. So just stick with [i]making[/i] games... It's time to shut down the Twitch stream, fire anyone who can't code, draw, manage a server, or run your accounting software - and grow up enough to realize you can make a game, you can't make a community.
