Also it's easy enough to kill a blade dancer by firing once and punching them

yeah but you die in that exchange, a high fire rate shotgun will kill them before a trade can occur :)

No you don't, you only do the first few times you do it. Once you have the timing and their swing distance down its easy to survive. Also warlocks and hunters survive the exchange much easier.
