As a creationist I can confirm that creationists who think the world is 6000 years old are idiots.
English
-
Yeah. I'm a Christian and think that is bs.
-
Wait....there's different types of creationists? I thought it was just that one crazy guy who started the museum and a bunch of cult followers.
-
Agreed. Most creationists take the "created earth in six days" literally. We can't know if it was actually just 6 days or 6 billion years. Bible also says that God has a different view of time. To him a thousand years can seem like a day.
-
Can you prove that the universe wasn't created last Thursday?
-
kekekekek
-
Exactly. That's why I hate literalists. They take the word of god so seriously but don't think about what they're reading. Why would a god's word be so basic? I think a lot of it is a metaphor, or gets misinterpreted. Like the story of Sodom & Gamorra, (I think I spelled that wrong). It was destroyed because the town had no hospitality, but for some reason everyone reads it as "god smited it cuz there wur gays in the town".
-
Ok so you know exctly which parts to take literally right?
-
You shouldn't take anything literally in the bible
-
Thats arguable, but I would say that aside from a lot of the moral instructions and the fact that god is real, the stories are metaphors or have a deeper meaning. You're meant to think about the bible, not read it and instantly assume what's written down is absolute truth.
-
Exactly you have to interpret the bible using a method such as the historical critical method
-
Nope, not a clue. Some parts are obvious, some aren't.
-
Well what do you believe if you don't think the world is 6000 years old?
-
Same as you, billions of years. It's written that man perceives time differently than god.
-
The three main creationist positions are: young earth, day age, and gap theory.
-
Gap theory is not good as science will eventually be able to explain all things that are out of human comprehension and the God of the gaps will disappear. Also it depicts God as a shadowy figure shrouded in mystery
-
That's not what gap theory is.
-
Oh my bad I thought you were referring to God of The Gaps ideology
-
Yeah, I'm a creationist and the world is definately not 6000 years old.
-
So you don't believe in evolution
-
Not 100%, but I do believe a creature can adapt and in a sense "evolve" over a long period of time.
-
No as God can use science to create.
