They are nerfing the guns which need to be nerfed (like Gjallarhorn and Icebreaker). I don't think they should keep carrying gear over from one year to the next. I have felt pretty stale of the last year constantly keeping the same go-to weapons in inventory slots. Don't get me wrong, Gjallarhorn, Thorn, VoC, WoC, etc. are all great weapons, but one of the best parts about games like Destiny, in my opinion, is the sense of progression and getting more powerful. If the powerful guns in the game keep getting upgraded, it doesn't set the game up for long term success. If I am still keeping my exotic slot reserved for Gjallarhorn for the next 9 years when I am pushing PVE content, then it's going to get pretty boring. I would rather see a new mix of weapons come out and have to figure out how to min/max the new era of weapons rather than constantly relying on the old. Part of the fun of these type of games for me is the min/maxing and evolving the character with the changing scenarios the game brings on through major updates. I would like to put one big caveat on what I am saying. Bungie needs to really focus on making weapons and armor which are relevant for the content we are doing in order to make the switch and the min/maxing worthwhile. I think they tried to do that with PoE, but with all the old gear carrying forward they missed the mark. If PoE had been the end all content and delivered good entertainment, then people would want to play it more and min/max accordingly. This also goes hand in hand with content being difficult enough to merit the min/max. I digress. I believe there is a good way to phase out gear in favor of new gear, but Bungie as of yet has not met the criteria to make me care to min/max at the highest level of current play nor have they made gear which is actually interesting enough to want to seek out. When they do that, they will have a much better formula in my opinion.
