Wouldn't that in turn be the ultimate version of earning? Worship God and take the punishment of your sins for the reward of his eternal presence

The punishment is eternal. And like I've said. You cannot earn your way to heaven in Christian theology.

So no one can reside with him because everyone commits a sin. Even the most microscopic sin will mean eternal punishment. What would be the point in worshipping god if everyones end means eternal damnation?

He came into his creation, lived a sinless life and then died as to take the punishment we deserve and if we trust that he did that he will impart to us his perfection.
