ALL ABOUT EXOTICS...??? The Curious Cat is Curious! (FIXED IT, sorry about that XD )

(LOL! Each time I went to do a new post it kept putting it in "All Topics" O_o ) Hmm... So yeah, as per usual you know my posts are mostly geared towards Bungie cause obviously this is their feedback forum. That being the case I always encourage Cozmo, DeeJ and or anyone else with Bungie to converse with me in discussions. Like always you can expect to have a civil chat with me about the things that I'm talking about here or addressing. This time, I wanted to draw attention to a matter myself and a few others have been contemplating since all this Twitch stream business took place. I can't help but notice that this new #saveourexotics movement has been in full swing and it seems people keep posting it in just about every thread on here. Its been gaining momentum, that much is true. And in its wake, it seems that its been pushing down all the complaints regarding the fact that our Year 1 Legendary Weapons and Armor and how people aren't happy about that. People WERE mostly pushing just for the Legendaries, and then the twitch stream happened and now its all about the Exotics. Case in point, the 12/04/2014 update that people keep referencing about what DeeJ said: https://www.bungie.net/7_Bungie-Weekly-Update---12042014/en/News/News?aid=12447 I see no reason to quote the reference itself, I'm sure we have all seen it copy/pasted plenty enough as is. And I think it best to provide the actual link itself so anyone who reads this can simply see the update in question and read for themselves that DeeJ was in fact NOT actually talking specifically about the Exotics but about ALL our gear that we worked hard for. However, we see people taking that and making it all about the Exotics. More often than not, these are far and wide the people who weren't giving a damn about the plight the rest of us were dealing with in regards to our Year 1 Legendaries. A number of them are those who were actually trolling anyone who dared to complain about a lack of continued Gear Ascension for Year 1 content, which I've pointed out elsewhere. Nevermind the fact that if all of them had been more in favor of said continued Gear Ascension like the rest of us from the get go, their precious Exotics wouldn't be getting touched anyways in the first place. (I'm not going to list names, though. For anyone reading this, you already know which category you fall into) That all having been said, I feel the need to ask this question and I would be interested in hearing an actual answer from Bungie about this. Was this the plan from the beginning? Basically, I'm asking if Bungie was always intent on having all the Exotics continue to move forward into Year 2, just like they did for Dark Below? The reason I feel the need to ask this is because of what I've been seeing going on as of late. And not just on here, either. Youtubers, journalists and other media outlets have been pushing this point as well and giving coverage on the matter but they all seem to have one glaring aspect in common with one another. They are all talking about JUST the Exotics and completely ignoring the point of what's happening to the Legendaries. Could it be that the Exotics were purposefully held back to get the attention taken off of the Legendaries, and then before the release of TTK reveal that all the Exotics are in fact going to be brought forward so that everyone then gets all happy and forgives the entire ordeal? When people flew into an outrage about the price for TTK and then the interview with Luke Smith brought the situation to a breaking point, an apology was issued in the form of offering players the ability to spend additional money, an extra $20, just to get the new emotes. Bare in mind, the original complaint that had everyone angry in the first place was that Year 1 Veterans were getting next to nothing for having already invested $100 into the franchise, while new players will be having access to all the new and past content for a standard $60 price tag. So in truth, that added deal for Year 1 players to spend even more money on the game was by no means considered an appropriate response. And yet, despite that? It seems next to no one talks about it anymore. In fact, major youtubers who were originally being critical about the fiasco were actually saying "good job" and acting like the players actually achieved some major victory, when in all seriousness anyone with common sense could see how hollow that victory truly was. But of course, the big takeaway from it is that "it worked" to appease the majority. And I find this troubling... Because it is evidence that this community can, apparently, very easily be manipulated by given some sort of reward even if it has little to no real value. So I need to assume a worse case scenario here. If Exotics were purposefully held back to create all this controversy and media exposure for Destiny, all so that it could be used as some big publicity stunt by later, before the release of TTK to put those Exotics back in as some big thing to make the players feel indebted? Where does that leave the issue concerning Year 1 Legendaries? Is Destiny all about the Exotics? Was the time people spent grinding Strikes for Vanguard Marks to purchase Legendary gear from the vendors nothing more than a giant waste? Were we idiots for spending countless hours redoing Vault of Glass and Crota's End over and over again to get those Raid Legendaries like the Fatebringer or Word of Crota? Was it a fruitless endeavor for people to purchase House of Wolves and play Prison of Elders all for the purpose of getting Etheric Light? And what about the Trials of Osiris gear? Cozmo. DeeJ. Luke Smith. Bungie in general... I would like to know the answer to this. I'm not throwing hate at you, I'm not looking to start a fight, cuss or even cause any problems. I would just like a straight up response to this question so that I can know, right now, what to expect going forward with Destiny and if its worth it for myself or my friends to consider putting anymore time and energy into it. Is this game really all about the Exotics? Should people only focus on getting the Exotics and not care about anything that is classified as Legendary? Should people only be thinking about going after the Exotics for their collections despite only being able to have one equipped at any given time? For anyone else who happens to read this and is also curious to know the answer, please feel free to Like and leave a comment. Thank you.

  • It seems like Bungie does everything right...but one or two major things and those things end up screwing up the whole experience. The perfect example is HoW. HoW was by all means, our dream DLC. It introduced reforging, etheric light, ascension, new endgame patrol, new bounties, the Trials of Osiris, a. Ew social space etc. And all Bungie had to do to make a happy fan base was throw in a halfway decent raid. But they didn't. I think we are seeing the same thing here. Where Bungie includes almost all the right things in the DLC. A raid, a plethora of new weapons, new boss types, new lore, more vault space, 2.0...but all this is undermined by the fact that our year one gear and weapons won't be ascendable. This is very important to year one players and I don't see the logic behind not letting us carry everything over. For every three good songs Bungie plays, they screw up one song that makes us hate the whole album.

Bump - thanks for this constructive post Mal
I would like to know the answer to this. I'm not throwing hate at you, I'm not looking to start a fight, cuss or even cause any problems. In regards to your post, to me it's the constant reset and invalidation of gear/progress. I haven't seen so much back in forth in a single game throughout its DLC life. Keep in mind, this isn't even Destiny 2 - it's the base game that has changed dramatically in just 1 year.

      • Thank you for making this. It is always good to read this, even if I know about all of these already. It is good to see the information getting to the public. Keep it up, malph. You are doing good work, I myself don't have the time to make these, but if I did, I would.

        • The official playstation. Magazine and edge magazine both had interviews with bungie and they stated that not all year 1 exotics will upgrade to year 2 at launch, and the rest will be released throughout the year(some may come back for year 3)

          • #saveouryear1stuff.............better? I understand what is happening and it is not good for Bungie to continue in this fashion, Destiny will not last 10 years if they continue with this method of selling us the game. Personally I am ok with leaving behind legendries from crucible and vanguard but not from Raids. Should the raids receive an increased level difficulty with new raid gear? Yes, of cores but Bungie are too lazy to even bother

            • From my perspective Exotics or Legendaries make no difference. I refuse to pay more money to Bungie where they constantly lie to my face and all they ask is pay pay pay. I am done paying them , they need to give us the product we deserved.

You know what really pisses me off? That I paid for those legendaries in the beta. Never got a full set of justicar's gear. I never got a fate bringer. I like to role play. I had one titan dedicated to new monarchy faction. Which means that I wanted to collect new monarchy gear. My warlock was a mix of dead orbit and iron banner gear. Had the exodus set armor. Deleted it. Made obsolete. Iron banner gear. Deleted it made obsolete. Etc. Etc. All this shit I paid for. Bungie doesn't let me even access this gear anymore even though I paid for it in the beta. It's locked on my disc. This is one of the reasons why I can't go on in this game. Bungie doesn't respect the fact that I paid money to be a beta tester. No respect. No more money.

            • It's all marketing, bro. First the pricing fiasco, so they announced the patch 2.0 nerfs to redirect. Then the legendaries to redirect on that, and now the exotics to redirect on that. They'll just keep repointing the crapshoot until TTK is released, then promise to 'fix' everything later. Very few people are complaining about the prices now, so as long as they can slide TTK out the door while the attention is elsewhere....they're golden.

              • Funny, I was having similar thoughts. I also wish no Ill Will on bungie (weapon pun) but I can't recall a game where the weapons that you acquire won't even last you until the end. We are basically starting from scratch on the PVE side.

Bump. Why grind activities if the rewards wont live past the next expansion? Personally, I despise the grind this game throws in the face of players, and it's one thing to do it for a reward, its another to grind for a reward that will only be useful until they come out with the next raid, strike, MP mode, etc at which point you have to start all over and on and on the wheel turns

I personally have not forgotten about any of the skeezy decisions Bungie has made along the way. For me what is really scary is the trend they are setting with every dlc changing how gear and weapons work. Which creates the constant need to grind gear every 4-6 months. That is not the experience I am looking for from this game. I realize that most MMO'S work like that, but that is also why I don't play MMO'S! So my question is will this trend continue? Is that part of the 10 year plan?

                  • Food for thought as usual. Personally, I'm getting tired of the "power creep" argument. It seems like the exact opposite is happening... granted I'll judge after I play TTK, but all this foolishness is leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

                  • Not only will all the time you spent be a waste, but doing the VoG or Crota or ToO or basically any year one endgame content is now pointless as well so that, in essence, cuts the game back down to 1 raid to run a week not 3... Trials is pointless because adept weapons are gonna blow.. Crota is already a joke... Not looking good Bungie.. I don't know how stupid you think your fanbase is but I'm pretty sure you seriously underestimated us...

Should people only be thinking about going after the Exotics for their collections despite only being able to have one equipped at any given time?
Any definitive answer they give you, they will just arbitrarily change the next expansion and say, "It's another new beginning, again!". You can't trust anything they say at this point. They blatantly lied to this community about their understanding of why we play this game and they are so out of touch with the common Destiny player, that they couldn't even answer ONE question (Exotics) in the weekly update to our satisfaction. They will make any change at all to this game, if they think they can make more money out of it. It is that simple. Anything they tell you will be subject to change, based on their interpretation of the current market trends. I'm not Trolling, just telling it like it is. Bungie lied to us, mislead us, and will clearly continue to do so.

                    • I'm sorry, but I wouldn't be so quick to start finger pointing at the people who are finally getting it and who are now saying enough is enough. We can either present a united front or you can continue on with posts like this one to split the opposition to Bungie's foolishness. Secondly, Bungie has done a great job at damage control after the Luke Smith interview debacle. DeeJ made some vague promise which they haven't delivered on yet.

Some psychologist that Bungie hired disagrees so Bungie puts all their trust into him, instead of us. So we will see in the long run who is right... They are going to do what they are going to do. And nothing we say will change it now. What this psychologist said to Bungie was that, you will need to slightly modify the weapon, and add green paint on it, and they will continue to buy your new expansion every year. Bungie said ok . Then the Psychologist said. I am afraid we are out of time. Lets pick this up again next week. That will be 100 dollars please.

                        • Well said. On the point of Legendaries - I am by far and away more attached to the Legendary weapons/armour anyhow. Most of them cannot be attained anymore and the time/effort/materials that has gone into reforging the HoW stuff is immense. It is logical to assume from a developer standpoint that people were going to feel invested and attached to these items and therefore want to keep ascending them. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/144314707/0/0/1 This is my Gheleons Demise.
