How about incest being a big no no (understandably so). But then according to the bible the whole human population was created from incest?
-
God allowed it to propagate the human race. When it's purpose was fulfilled, he put a stop to it.
-
That's convenient. Also as we all came from 2 people incest must have gone on for many generations...In fact that means we are all related meaning incest still happens now for every child born.
-
Once the genes are spread out enough you don't have the ill effects. The bible actually gives a detailed explanation of where that line is drawn.
-
What about noahs ark, 8 people left in the world..Oh look back to incest. What is it with God and incest?
-
Well something causes massive divisions in the Christian population and it isn't the kind of paper Bibles are printed on.
-
People wanting to make the bible conform to their opinion cause division. Not the bible itself. There are some things in the bible that aren't perfectly clear, but those things should be discussed not divisive. But nothing that contradicts.
-
If something is unclear enough to create two opposing ideologies (for example in the case of homosexuality or on how best to worship) it may as well be explicitly contradictory.
-
Homosexuality is a very clear issue. Like I said, people want the bible to conform to their opinions.
-
Edited by Cultmeister: 8/24/2015 2:45:45 PMThat is exactly what I said, except you're taking one side and saying that the other side are the only ones to do that. Surely the people with the other opinion to you could say that it is you who are interpreting the Bible according to your beliefs. What makes you right and them wrong, other than the fact you 'understand the bible better' which is a totally ambiguous thing anyway.
-
There are some things that can be discussed because they aren't given explicitly, homosexuality isn't one of them.
-
Edited by Cultmeister: 8/24/2015 3:49:27 PMSo what does The Bible explicitly say about homosexuality?
-
Any sex outside a male and female marriage is a sin. http://bible.com/100/lev.18.22.nasb You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination. http://bible.com/100/rom.1.26-27.nasb For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. The are more, but it's not needed.

The OT does not count as Christian scripture according to many. It is a collection of the old Israelite laws which do not necessarily apply to Christians. Now you obviously don't agree with that, but read: Galatians 3
23 Now before faith came, we were held captive under the law, imprisoned until the coming faith would be revealed. 24 So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith. 25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian,
Romans 10:4
For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
You see how easily we can cherry-pick things and say something completely different to what you think? There are plenty of passages that say Jesus came to fulfil the law set out in the OT but these ones aren't vague easily misinterpret-able passages, they are very specific, and they specifically denounce the old laws. Just as specific as what you quoted, yet your interpretation of yours are right whereas my interpretation of mine are wrong because I do not know the truth whereas you do. From someone claiming atheists can't argue with logic, your own is fairly muddled up.

Actually no. There are different aspects of the mosaic law. One aspect is the moral law which includes sexually immorality. It is eternal. It was in play before and after the mosaic law. Also, I gave a nt passage also and there are plenty more that I didn't feel like listing.
