Because with leaving the old weapons behind it leaves a gap for new players and old to find there new weapon of ultimate power thus it will recuperate you into playing the game for the next best thing,
This is what happens in a MMO all the time.
You leave old gear for new not forgetting its greatness and thirsting to find a weapon or build that was just a powerful as the last.

I agree with this, which is why I'm fine with our vog and Crota gear being left behind; however, I don't like how they are handling year one exotics. They are picking and choosing certain ones to bring along, and even giving new versions of some of those, but the rest are left behind and get nerfed or buffed on top of it, for no reason. If they were leaving all year one exotics behind, I would be perfectly fine with it, but it's the fact that they are just choosing certain ones with no reason given either. It just doesn't seem right. It should be an all or nothing sort of deal
