It's an MMO style game that doesn't focus on what major MMO companies focus on. Character building and class trees.
It literally takes a day or two to get your character to its maximum potential. Real MMOs take much longer.
If a real MMO'S gameplay is 70% character building and 30% obtaining gear, Destiny would have about 5-10% character building and 90-95% gear obtaining.
Add to the fact that they WANT people to reach end game fast by giving them a level 25 boost, experience boosts and it's obvious obtaining gear is what they are aiming for.
So why then does it make sense for such a game to set progress back by replacing the gear? "Because it's an MMO"?
Real MMOs don't try to invalidate what you've done in the past. Yes, it makes you gear obsolete, but in those games gear doesn't matter as much as your character does. It Destiny, obtaining gear is the only thing to do when you can't do anything else character-wise, and unlike real MMOs, the character building portion of the game goes by so fast it's basically given to you.
