For people who are fine with gally ( and one year exotics) being left behind...

Did you people even think about it ramifications of this? You guys are aware that the gally and other year one exotics are going to be "frozen in time", never to be upgraded ever again. Now, I could be a bitch on the forums, calling people idiots, or claim that they are bungie's sheep.... But I'm not going to be a bitch. My question is, WHY you are okay with the gally ( and for the sake of having a good discussion: other one year exotics ) being left behind? For most of us, these exotics (like gally) were not easy to get. I just wonder why you guys are fine leaving them behind after countless months are grinding. UPDATE: What I mean by calling people names, is that I could be toxic like some people are. I don't want to be that toxic person. All I wanted to have a good discussion about this.

  • Bungie definitely made a mistake. They should never have let any weapons or armour be ascended at all, period. People wouldn't have developed the reliance that they now have on certain items, and wouldn't be getting so upset. On the bright side I'm sure this whole emotional outpouring has been a learning experience for Bungie, and they won't make the same mistake again.

  • I m okay with it. Reason I loved this game is because when a new weapon drop I get excited. This does not happen anymore because the dominate weapons are so good. If like me you have a g horn, thorn, and all the raid guns. There is no drop that is ever going to get you excited. It has become boring. I do not want to use the fate bringer in year 3. I do not want to use the g horn in year 8. I want a new set of fear that is going to get me excited again. Before you get too upset, you do know that they will upgrade the g horn again just not straight away. They bring out a black version or something in the next dlc or even destiny 2.

  • I am extremely torn about this. Personally, I believe it is immoral for Bungie to dictate how we play a game that WE paid for. On the other hand, as you demonstrated so clearly, if we were given the ability to choose which Exotics come with us to Year Two, everyone would choose Gjallarhorn. There is no doubt about that. Year Two would just be a pathetic breeze. I am not okay with that. Could you imagine someone still using Year One weapons in Year Ten? That would be sad. People are far too attached to virtual weaponry.

  • It's time for a new load out dynamic. Gjallarhorn will no longer be the biggest baddest weapon, you have something new to chase and enjoy.

    • No exotic is "hard" to get. I took a 26 through his first VoG, he gets Gjallarhorn from the chest. His first exotic. It may seem hard due to all the grinding and hoping, but not hard. I for one am fine with it being left behind, because that only means bigger and better things are coming. (Swords anyone?) And I'll still break it out to do Crota anyway. *variks voice* For....fun.

    • Its not like we arent ever going to see a good exptic again. Theres so much that we havent seen in TTK that we have yet to discover and learn. Ultimately Destiny was originally designed to be an MMO/RPG, that means progression happens, change happens. Bungie has alot of fans from the halo series that ultimately switched over to destiny probably. As well, alot of people come from other very linear FPS games such as CoD. Im not saying everyone did, but im pretty sure alot were. Im certain we've just seen the tip of the iceberg with TTK. Theres going to be more weapons, more armor, new classes, a new raid, the list goes on. Destiny needs to advance and move forward, not be stuck in the past using the same weapons and armor that we acquired at what will be three quarters of the maximum level. There will be new things coming out and we are all dissing the new DLC before it even drops. Its like back in week 2 when i first got gjallarhorn, my second exotic. I was like "the f is this?" And continued using my red death because i didnt want to change my ways. When i started using that beautiful launcher (and finally leveled it), i instantly fell in love. To be honest, im excited that i get to have new weapons to try out and make new favorites and fall in love with the game over again. In terms of my second point which also solidifies my first, the majority of people who play are ex Halo and CoD players. They dont ever have to worry about their favorite gun becoming obsolete because the game is very linear, and doesnt offer much progression except for aesthetic things. The same weapons, the same gear, all the time. Destiny is not like that. We need to come out of our linear FPS thinking and realize Destiny isnt just another FPS. It offers progression, it offers (although limited until TTK) customization, it offers things that Halo and CoD didnt offer and the game is advancing and evolving into something even better in year 2. In Borderlands, you didnt just stick with one gun, you found others that eventually replaced it. You found things that were better, rediculously higher powered than the one you had before. I think Bungie is making a smart decision in leaving some exotic weapons behind. It promotes progression and advancement towards the new highest level. Alot of things are going to be changing in year 2, dont be caught up in nostalgia and allow yourself to miss out on the full experience of The Taken King.

    • Yeah it sucks.. But never trying new things sucks even more!! It'll be nice to mix things up and from what I've seen we have more than enough to keep us popping (or chopping) alien heads off for the next few months ;]

    • Because I play for fun, not to collect and keep using the same weapons. And change is good, using the same weapons for 10 years would be boring.

    • It only really sucks for people that just got it now. I've had ghorn since week 7 or 8 of the game so I have used it a lot. As a person that's has used it extensively I kind see what bungie mind set is. It was the most overpowered and overused exotic so now it's time to leave it behind or at least take a break from it. I also get why some are getting brought forward. Many of them are underused and underpowered. So again it sucks for people that just got it but I think if bungie balanced the guns properly this time ,we all should have a lot more guns in our rotation. I enjoyed destiny in the first year but I can say my gun rotation was boring.

      • Gjallarhorn was the pinnacle weapon of Year One. As it isn't going into Year Two I can fondly look back and remember its majesty. Plus am I the only one that is super excited to see the new weapons exotic/legendary? We wouldnt use new weapons if we could bring out Fatebringers and Gjallarhorns. LEave them in the Vault and bring them out when you want to do VoG or Crota

      • I just hope that these new weapons are actually worth using. Because...the Dark Below weapons and HoW weapons were a major bust. Yeah they're cool to have, but I favor the original exotics over them all. TTK ones better be worth me having to give up what I've grown to love.

      • I just think it's funny that everyone is acting like the sky is falling. People are carrying on like there is no plan to replace what's being lost. My guess is that a high percentage of the people who carry on will get their new weapons, find the ones that they like, and two months from now couldn't care less about whatever old weapons are getting left behind.

      • When they said some exotics would not be brought along in year 2 they followed that by saying "right now" hinting that sometime in the future they could make a come back.

      • Hmm, i want to say its just due to me being used to playing games with progression systems. Old things get left behind and new things are found. Its not like this is a new concept really, i mean any one of us could go and replay one of the story missions and get say, a lv5 green fuzion rifle. So you could do that, and you could get some loot from this area of the game, and you could use it. But you wont. You moved on to new things just as you have before (im using 'you' in a general sense, not trying call anyone out on things). The main problem i think people are having is that we are thinking from a 'right now' perspective. But what needs to be understood is that right now, we are the strongest any Guardian at this level will probably ever be. When the new level cap is 40, 34 will just be another level to push though, wearing whatever you happen to have at the time. While on the other hand we, as lv34 players have the best of the best top tier full legendary maxed out gear. Never again will any player at lv34 have mastered all previous content in the way that we have and as such never again will they be as strong (Of course there could be exceptions, im talking generaly). So what does this mean? It means that alot of these changes and simply not for us. The year one exotics can not be upgraded, but the year 2 require a lv40 character anyway. That means the year ones are for the players mid level, not capped yet. They are our lv20+ exotic tier options, and the lv40 ones are for when you finnaly cap that character. The spark that lets you boost a character to lv25? Again, not for us. Many of these changes are for the new player that just started, not the players that have seen and done it all. Maybe i am being a sheep for thinking this way, or maybe some people have got so attached to their gear that they hate the idea of progression. Or some other third thing, what do i know im just a person on the internet.

      • well Ive had Gjallarhorn since the end of week 1 (seriously) so i can say ive definitely gotten my use out of it. However whilst making various exotics redundant is completely stupid i believe the only reason they have done this is because they just were constantly failing at getting a balance in weapons. They introduced etheric light only to ditch it again because they cant balance legendaries. In the end it has been easier for them to render most weapons useless and to start a fresh with weapon balancing.
