As long as you are using UPnP, and are getting a NAT Type 2 or 1, you shouldn't need to open ports.
If you are connecting with wifi, switch to a wired connection.

Well im also having Nat types with other people in party chat. It takes them forever to get cleared with me so i hop out & back in & i still get nat type with them. I figured opening ports might help too. But whats safer opening or forwarding ports?
-
If you have NAT issues with certain other players, it could be them, not you.
-
I always have NAT Type 2 on my console & i think thats why our sessions close out on us unexpectedly i dont know if this happends to people with NAT Type 1 or Open NAT

Edited by jnikoley: 8/17/2015 9:06:53 PMWhat are you on xbox or ps? Nat type 2 is Open on ps, and is the best you can get connected to a router. Xbox will report type 1 any time you are open NAT.

Im type 2 nat on ps4. I have upnp checked but cant find any forwarding options
-
Dont mess with it. Type 2 is Open NAT. If you want Type 1, you need to connect directly wired to a Modem, NOT Gateway/Router.
-
Its a cable modem with wireless built in because it has a phone jack plus its connected by fiber optic which is ran outside
-
Then its a "gateway". Typically, you can disable/shut off the wireless and routing features to make it a modem. As a modem, you would only be able to connect a single device by lan cable. You would then be "Nat type 1". Again, you don't need to do that, you are already Open NAT.

Then whats with the "Contacting Destiny Servers...." it eventually kicks me or my girl out of destiny & we on same network how do we decrease these issues on both consoles

Edited by jnikoley: 8/17/2015 10:11:16 PMThat has nothing to due with NAT type. Typically that is a sign of poor connection quality. Within your gateway's settings, you can find your signal strenghth and SnR. Do a google search to understand what the signal levels mean, and what you can do about them. Edit: http://www.speedguide.net/faq/what-cable-modem-signal-levels-are-considered-good-78 It could also be caused by a wifi connection. Then theres a chance it could be the cable infrastructure or ISP. Lastly, sometimes the server will have a "hiccup". Nothing you can do about the last two issues.

Forwarding is "opening" but manually. UPnP opens ports automatically. UPnP would be "safer", because you don't run the risk of blocking ports to other applications on the network. I would suggest accessing your router to verify UPnP is enabled, and any unessecary firewalls are off.
