Dear Deej,
So rumor has it that all of the gear and weapons we the year 1 veterans and day 1 players have collected will basically become trash? There is a lot of talk among the community during raids and prison of elders about how it's pointless to be collecting the things we like for their functions, stats, and appearances because none of the year 1 gear and weapons are going to be allowed to ascend to the new highest values. I would like to know if this holds any truth personally? But I can tell you this Mr. Deej, should you take away our beloved collection of weapons and gear and render them useless, you will lose your year 1 foundation gamers. And the word on the street of your "10 year plan" for Destiny will quickly turn into a "10 minute flop". Personally I will be hunting for the coolest new gear that suits my play styles and adding them to my collection, but if that which I have grown to love now is null and void, I will not be spending any more money on this game after I try "The Taken King". The logic behind this is very simple, I do not want to spend $20-$40 every 2-3 months for more content that forces me to throw away all of my collection and start from scratch. I would imagine I am not alone in these sentiments, so Destiny community, please read and support this forum post and lets see what we can do about getting the game we want presented to us. Thank you all for your time and lets keep things positive and get heard!! Good day to everyone :).

From what I've read, it's just the legendary gear that you won't be able to ascend. You will still be able to level up exotics. Also, the level cap will no longer be based on Light Levels. So that will automatically render your armor useless. Personally, I thoroughly enjoy using my fatebringer, vision of confluence, blackhammer etc. However, I don't want to still be using these same weapons in Destiny 2 or 3 or 4. I don't want to have to keep re-ascending my weapons and armor over and over. I want better weapons Destiny 2. Better armor. Better ways of leveling them up and keeping them current with the dlc content that comes for out those games. And I would expect there to be new weapons and gear for Destiny 3 and again for 4. Everyone takes the "10 year plan" and thinks it's all just going to be the the same gear from year one all the way through year 10, and that's just boring. Why would they do that? What game franchise do you get upgradable gear in the 1st game that continuously ascends through 10 years of games? Grinding for the gear earlier made sense because then you have it for this whole time. Grinding for it now is pointless since you will have roughly another to use it. Current gear will become obsolete but who's to say better gear won't be available?
