TTK Weapon Controversy

In the light of recent TTK news and everyone complaining about weapons/others insulting etc. I´ve decided to talk about what the problems are and why I think so many people are not happy about the changes. So if you care about discussing these changes, buckle up and get ready because it´s gonna be a long post. If not feel free to come up with any insut you want. But let me be clear first: This is NOT a rant/crying post. I am very much looking forward to TTK and the recent news have shown that Bungie deeply cares about improving their game. I´m not "cancelling preorder" or "quitting" or "not buying TTK fk u bungie". I simply want to voice MY OPINION as to what the problems are right now and what needs to be taken seriously in the future So, TKK comes with a wipe. A clean slate for all of us. Leaving the old gear behind and getting new, more powerful gear. While everyone says "This is the way MMOs work" (although Destiny isn´t an MMO, but let´s forget that for a while), there are a couple of problems. -The relationship with our weapons in Destiny can´t be experienced in any other MMO game. In Destiny, you spend countless hours to get the said weapon. Bungie has been clear that loot is very important in this game. This is an FPS, meaning almost all the time you play, YOUR WEAPON is mostly the only thing you see on the screen. Therefore you care more about weapons than about the armor you have on. In other games there are countless of abilities you are using and weapons aren´t that important. You simply get another one that has a higher damage value and some unique perk and you play more. In Destiny, your weapon is everything. It´s because it´s an FPS. -Weapons need to be upgraded, so you spend a lot of time getting mats and XP to upgrade the weapon, forming even a closer bond with the said weapon. If you pour valuable resources into a weapon (and let´s be honest, materials have been valuable as we started raiding), the weapon gains value to you. I´m not sure if there is a game that has such a lengthy weapon upgrade procedure (please enlighten me if you know one, as I´m really not sure) -Reforging is another way to increase the bond between you and your weapon. You spend countless parts and motes to finally get the roll you want and the weapon becomes your favourite, your "precious". Yes I´m sure this is not how everyone feels it, but a lot of people are fond of their reforged weapons because they fit the exact needs they have and it´s personal. -Raid weapons remind you of something. That Fatebringer remind you of VOG and the countless Templar fights. Even while you are using it in PoE. That Black Hammer or Fang reminds you of the Crota´s end. All weapons have a feel to it and people are sad to see them go, because it means they lose a trophy that reminds them of the time and fun they had with certain content. The design of the weapons also points on something. I know we are getting hakke/suros/omolon and surely raid weapons again but vex/fallen/osiris/queen themed weapons are a big part of the universe and our memories within the game. -There are a lot of arguments saying people will still use old guns and need to move on. I don´t think this is the problem. It´s because PoE weapons mostly flat out sucked. Bungie needs to create good new weapons worth using. Examples from HoW: Shadow of Veils, a great PvP sniper or Trials gear like Messenger. These weapons shine even though you are able to ascend old gear. Because they are simply good and worth using. From my point of view, these are the reasons people complain about not being able to ascend old gear for TTK. While I agree that we need a clean slate and it´s a good decision for TTK to leave old guns behind, Bungie needs to think about what weapons mean in Destiny. Stop thinking about them as a trophy, but rather give them out more often and most importantly, not have us pour many resources to reforge and upgrade the weapon if we will change to a stronger one either way. This needs to be said before TTK drops, because if it happens again more people will be dissapointed. Anyway that´s my point of view and I´m happy to discuss it if anyone has anything he wants to add/say. Thank you for the input.

 • The biggest issue to me is not the fact that the guns we have are going to be useless or anything like that. It more around the line of the impending nerf. What's the point of nerfing certain weapons (Black Hammer) when their not going to be powerful anyways when TTK drops? If TTK lives up to the hype and delivers on what GameInformer stated then why did I spend close to $100 on a beta test? Do the exotics come with us? Questions like that. I would've gladly waited another year if vanilla and the DLCs delivered what was promised.
I know Activision had a lot to do with the release date but Destiny had such a terrible launch it was almost laughable.
• The year 1 gear is getting old already. I'm hyped for trying something new and hopefully better! It doesn't mean I'll let go of some things. I just have to tactically delete. I agree with your post, having a clean slate will be like having a new adventure. ~TheGreatNike
