Solved - A question about upgrading consoles and Destiny

I am a PS3 Destiny player. I am fairly content with PS3, however I have a friend who plays on PS4 and I want to upgrade and play with him before the first Destiny game runs it's life cycle. I read the article about upgrading to PS4/Xbox One and saw how you have "limited time". I just wanted to ask how long I have to upgrade, whether I have to do it before the release of The Taken King or whether I can wait longer than that.

  • There are a couple of components to the Digital Upgrade promotion. At launch, the digital version of the base game for ps3 and 360 included a license for next gen in the same manufacturer family. This part expired on January 15th, 2015, but if you purchased the digital version before then, you qualify. You did not need to redeem the free license for next gen before January 15th. The DLC (expansion 1 or 2, and the expansion pass) are also included as part of the promo, and that portion has not expired yet. If you have already purchased any of the expansion content on PS3, your PSN ID has a license for the same item on PS4. You will still need to download these items on PS4, but they should be no charge for the PSN ID that made the purchase on PS3. If you haven't seen this already, here is more info on the digital upgrade promo: https://www.bungie.net/en/Help/Article/12122
