What I think you other countries are failing to realize, is that for better or worse, American society is incredibly stubborn. If you try to take something from us, we will fight you back with twice as much opposition. Look at Prohibition. Alcohol was made illegal to fight booze-related criminal activities. You know what happened? We only wanted it more, and were willing to create more crime in order to obtain it. In fact, an entire underground industry was created just to facilitate the desire that the American populous still had for alcohol. The crime rates spiked up so high, that the government had no choice but to make it legal once again. Same exact thing happened with good ol' cannabis. It was made illegal, people still wanted it, crime rates go up, and it's starting to become legal again. They say history repeats itself for a reason, because if guns are ever made illegal in the U.S., you bet your foreign ass that a similar pattern will emerge. You see, you're not simply asking people to give up a material good in exchange for morality and ethics; you're asking people to give up a way of life. Alcohol, marijuana, and guns will never disappear, no matter how illegal they are, because making things illegal doesn't really solve problems. I'll end my little rant with a friendly reminder: always remember that when your life is seconds from ending, the cops are minutes away. :)

I'm glad you at least see our side of things. And I hope you didn't take my post to be too rude. For other countries, gun control may be a thing that can work. But our country, believe it or not, is still doing a lot of developing itself, as population continues to rise. Countries with a steadily growing population almost always have fairly high crime rates, regardless of laws and regulations. For now, it is best to give the average citizen an actual fighting chance against the terrifyingly large criminal populous. I live in Florida, and New York before I moved here. Both states have some pretty terrible crime rates, and some pretty terrible law enforcement. Trust me, I know. I have quite a few relatives in law enforcement. I never had a gun because I thought it was cool to have or because it was fun to shoot, but because I feel I have the right to protect the people I care about from those who'd wish to harm them, especially when living in New York and Florida...

  • Your post isn't rude at all, and even if it was, there are people here that are condescending, passively aggressive jerks that look down on my opinion because mine is more liberal than what they're used to.

  • People are being rude and condescending because they see your opinion as a personal attack on something that's important to them. But, as I personally believe in the right to freely express your beliefs, I respect and understand your opinion and point of view. Countries are kind of like individual people, though. Some things work for some people, and some don't work for others.

  • Try not to take any of the rude remarks to heart. They're just trying to defend something they believe in.
