Wait but how does it work when your weapon is higher than both the enemy and your armour but your armour is lower than the enemy? It's already pretty simple how it is

Since I haven't been able to try it out yet I can't say for sure but my guess is they separated armor and weapons meaning if you have 33 armor light and 34 weapon light you do max damage to a 34 mob but take increased damage.
