Too many people posted the names of "hackers" and others that they found undesirable with ill intent. The reason that mods tell you not to post those names is because random people (a bunch who just had bad connections) ended up receiving offensive messages through Xbox and Playstation services. Mods see this posting any gamer tag or ID as a potential sign of harassment and will treat it as such. Even if the person deserves it, don't. It is a bad trend that gets out of hand.
I also want to mention that it is against the ToS as it is the spread of private information. Moderators and Bungie employees usually view that information as private too.
• Maybe if the cheaters are harassed, they wont do it again. Only way to stop them since Bungie isnt doing anything about it.

 • Bungie has been consistently banning people for awhile? They just don't talk about it.

 •
If the cheaters are harassed
Harassing them would be a violation of bungie, Sony, and/or microsoft's terms of service/code of conduct. If it starts a witch hunt for someone, that means that person just receives constant harassment and threats. Which in turn, could get you banned in the process.

 • There would be no harassing in the first place if Bungie would do something about the cheaters, possibly banning them for a certain amount of time. Bungie cant just expect everything to be fine and dandy if there just gonna sit on their @sses and watch these cheaters go on and wreck peoples time on destiny. They ban people for glitching tl get that ghost shell in king's watch, and why wont they ban here? Arent cheaters more important then ghost shells? No. They dont want ban as little people as they can. You wanna know why? MONEY. Almost every cheater put there has payed them at least $95, $60 for the game and $35 for the expansion pass. And with TTK, there gonna make even more money. And every cheater that they ban is $40 that they dont get, so i really dont think they care about cheaters. They're happy as long as they make money. And for the policy, i honestly say -blam!- it! Its vigilante justice that, really, im not a big fan of, but if bungie ain't gonna do jack about these cheaters, then, unfortunately, the players are gonna take it into their hands, because they care.

 • The difference between the ghost shell thing and lag switch, trials cheating, etc bans is that one is easier to identify, while the other isn't. They banned those who took the ghosts because all they needed to do was find the (IMO cleverly named) "intrusion" shell on the character to know that they used an exploit to obtain something that wasn't available yet. With issues stemming from online matches, they would have to carefully review their previous games to ensure they don't ban, for example, some guy who is just leeching off some poor neighbours wifi and not actually cheating. When people post GTs on the forums, there's a good chance that person didn't do anything wrong. And until it proven that he was cheating, they aren't guilty. Bungie can't just ban them out of the blue until theres enough proof to do so. However, if someone were to call someone else out on the forums for cheating, players can go out and attack that user. Even if they have no proof of cheating. Which can potentially cause harm to that person. What if someone was harassed to the point where they took their own life as a result of the multiple hate messages being received? Sure, if it's a cheater, you may think "it's deserved", but what if that person wasn't a cheater? What if it was just some random kid lagging by accident? I for one wouldn't want that person being attacked mercilessly. As such. Naming and shaming is probably enforced as a code of conduct violation to prevent witchhunts against users who may not actually be guilty.

 • Well, when you see a whole team of 3 players that all have poor connection, I think its more than just a coincidence that all of them have poor internet. It's one thing to just have internet lag, but its another thing to exploit this for your own personal gain. It's very tempting, and I think that's what a lot of people do. When I see people easily win 3-0 or whatever in the trials while they are lagging, they probably know what they are doing. It makes people angry, and I don't blame them. If you see someone doing this, I think you should report them definitely so Bungie can have a look (but they probably won't anyway :/ ) and if you need to, you should send a calm message to them asking what is going on. Nevertheless, lag, whether it's accidental or intentional, it is ruining ToO. I think when this happens I think the entire match should just end and everyone should be kicked from it, making it a tie or something. It may sound stupid, and it may make people angry, but it will create far less problems than what is already happening. The cheaters will be frozen in their tracks, and the innocent guys who just have bad internet can't get blamed. Other than that, you can just simply block the haters if you are being messaged by. I know you can block on psn, but I'm not sure about Xbox live. I think that's a decent compromise. *sigh* sometimes I wonder why so many people play this game, even with all the little problems it has with it.
