Destiny Storyline. (Dear Bungie)

Hola Bungie crew! To start, I want to say, bravo for creating a game that comes across as amazing with beautiful graphics, an awesome random drop system, fun and well done physics, and most importantly, a backstory that has so much potential that it's hooked me into believing that by playing the game, I'm going to feel like my Guardian will make a huge impact in this mysterious new era of the solar system almost in real (game) time. I'm going to guess you're sick of hearing this, however, it's hard for me to guess, because I haven't seen interviews or anything online truly addressing Destiny's story/cinematic content to personally experience it's world. Your team has created something awesome on multiple levels with so much effort and I heavily feel that an in depth storyline is missing in the game and it's not a little portion, it's significant. I dare to say, it's the most important part of the game aside from your over the top work to this piece. I also suspect that you are aware of this and don't plan to ruin Destiny's gaming experience for the single sake of making profit off of further expansions that focus expanding the game mechanics. (Money and time does complicate production I'm sure) (Especially without a monthly revenue to contribute towards this particular production) Destiny has a wonderful foundation in my opinion. However, the continued unveiling of the Storyline via Cinematics/In between cutscenes, and character development are missing and my Destiny friends/acquaintances/my almost entire Xbox One and 360 friends list/Playstation playing friends and I ask each other while we're grinding in this game, "Where is the story line? What are we doing this for in this world? What is our Destiny as Guardians? Are we wasting our time?" Will our Guardians have a significance to the storyline soon and continually in this almost seemingly never ending grind session? Are we going to be stuck waiting long periods of time playing grind content in between major storyline productions with voice overs in loading screens and backwards map runs? The Taken King looks like the starting answer to my questions, but, is it? I see that it will have a "New narrative driven by cinematic cutscenes starring an engaging cast of characters." I find that exciting! Something personal and engaging! Progression! Something I'm assuming you all have been working some serious overtime for. So, with all of that said. Just tell me straight up. Is your team constrained with time and budget to produce cinematic/cutscene/in depth character storyline content? If so, I can understand. You all have a lot on your plate in my opinion based on me trying to observe the business behind the creation. I truly hope your team doesn't feel burned out because you all are doing a wonderful job with the intense pressure I think you have. Destiny's Raid system is beautiful. The amount of thought and construction you all have put together to create additional places for us players to work together and uncover our individual abilities to work as a team to succeed is highly respected from me to you all. So please, tell me. Will we have more saturated story from here on end? Will us Destiny players get to play through a more progressive storyline that is so personal, that it keeps us strapping up our leveled weapons, armor, and sparrows, to seek our purpose as revived bodies to uncover the truth of who we are as Guardians? I feel we all love to experience well done theatrics as human beings and that's what Destiny seems to be all about from the beginning. So if I were to write a letter to the essence that is Destiny... It would be... Dear Destiny.... Will you saturate us with your in depth creative storyline theatrics that we are ever so craving even in between expansions? Our Gjallarhorn's and (preferred weapons and armor of choices) are ready. If anyone else feels the same way as my friends online and I do, please post up. Signed... Your friendly neighborhood Ruckus IIV Much Love Bungie Team - Kick ass and chew bubblegum! #destinystory

  • Totally agree. Seriously lacking in the storyline. Though I have faith that a solid story will unfold. Looking at the big picture for Destiny, I think year 1 served as more of a prologue to this 10 year saga Bungie has planned for Destiny. When WOW was released, it already had an established storyline and lore from the first 3 Warcraft games which Destiny did not have. I'd say by the end of year 2 if they havn't improved upon it then I'm done. There needs to be a purpose and focus to everything other than completing bounties and raiding for gear.

      • I feel that Destiny as of current suffers from the "cod condition" in that right now the mechanics and beauty of the world comes before a rich story that fulfills the purpose of spending 70+ hours to get a decent weapon that you'll use once or twice. I remember playing the Halo trilogy for the first time, with fan favorite Sergeant Johnson dying in Halo 3 and I felt bad for a virtual line of code. Halo was the first game I played, a game that made me crave that emotional punch and I do t want to see Destiny miss that mark. I also want me playing VOG and getting only Chatterwhite for the past 3 months to not be wasted without the innovative story I crave. I certainly hope Destiny The Taken King lives up to my expectations and Destiny's promises. And even if it doesn't I still have more dead ghosts to find, right?
