The problem usually lies with the absence of an ADSL (UK name) filter between your router or phone and the wall. If you have one of those then I have no idea.

That's the first thing that I would check. Next would be whether or not the OP has a relatively old cordless phone system that is throwing a ton of interference onto the Wireless LAN.
