This is a text-based form of communication, one where we have no other information to go on about the person behind the words other than their words. Would it not, then, be best to ensure that our words provide the impression of us we most wish to see? Incidentally; "Sociology" would be the proper term there. Understanding why an individual does not care would be Psychology, you mentioned "most".
