Just Played in the Crucible for the First Time and...

It was completely unenjoyable. But for difference reasons than MY RANT ABOUT VoG. I'm really bad at PvP. I always have been. That's not the games fault or the other player's faults. I was bad at PvP way back in the days of Hale:CE. Let me preface this by saying that I am delving into PvP strictly for the purpose of attempting to complete some Exotic Bounties, Bad Juju and Thorn, specifically. Bad Juju is going okay but I feel like Thorn is going to be a nightmare for me. I wouldn't play PVP otherwise. I tried some smaller maps and got my ass handed to me. I tried some bigger maps and got my ass handed to me. The bigger maps did allow me to hide more and snipe but I'm just really bad. I've got Up the Ante with explosive rounds but it doesn't matter. I tried my "old faithful" go to gun Another NITC with sniper range and firefly and it's completely ineffective in my hands. Suros was useless for me. Red Death only ended in my death. I did notice some internet issues, but nothing like I've been reading. There's not a lot of teamwork from what I've noticed. I've been shot at while a teammate stood right there and then ran off. Not bitching, just an observation. Overall, not an enjoyable experience at all, but mostly because I suck at it. The rewards were alright considering it's just PvP. I'm dreading doing the crucible part of the Thorn bounty. TL;DR - My first experience with PvP was horrible but mostly because I suck at it. EDIT: Link fixed

I feel your pain, I was in the same position for the same reasons for a long time but I now enjoy PvP and while I'm not any danger to the top players, I can usually get to the middle of the scoreboard. My advice round this (I now have Bad JuJu, Thorn and about to do Invective) is this: 1. If you haven't looked into this yet, Planet Destiny has a good beginners guide to PvP here: http://planetdestiny.com/category/crucibible/ The video about using your radar is essential and once you've learned the maps a bit you'll be doing a lot better and you'll start getting psychic on where to put your grenades! 2. Concentrate on the Bad JuJu bounty first (if its sitting on a different character than your Thorn one). Its a grind but there is no penalty for death so you will get there eventually. While you will continue to die (a lot) you'll also be gaining experience, learning the maps as you go, the types of weapons people are succeeding with, etc. I think I did something like 30 Rumble matches for JuJu and most of the bounty points I scored would have been in the last 10 matches as I got better. Then when you go to do the other bounties you'll be dieing less often which makes them much easier! Even if you never do PvP again, Bad JuJu is a fun gun, its definitely worth it! Also with the Crucible rewards system being improved you'll have some Crucible Marks to play with as well! 3. Which PvP match are you playing? I did Bad JuJu in Rumble which is a baptism of fire but I did the Thorn bounty in Control and I had more fun there. You may find that the more team based games like control are your thing or if your doing that already then maybe you'd prefer the Rumble style of things. (but see point 5 if your going to do team based) 4. Thorn: Are you doing this one with your Warlock? Life is so much easier if you are. And sorry, another silly question, you have void secondary & heavy weapons equipped when your doing it? Sorry, had to ask. As said I found this so much easier doing this in Control - you know where the enemy is going to be headed or are right now (you can see your control point being captured) and you have back up so you won't die as much as Rumble. Also helping capture a control point gives you super energy which means more guaranteed kills with void damage. Nothing Manacles + Scatter grenade + bloom = lovely purple death time on a busy control point. I see you have obsidian mind which is also great if you can take out a crowd to get your next super on its way. Also its tempting to concentrate on the special weapon as it will be scoring a lot of your points - but if its a choice between scoring a kill with your non-void primary and dieing (setting you back and possibly your team) then kill the enemy with whatever you have! 5. Odd thing to say I suppose but this was important for me - forget your running the bounty, free yourself from worrying about how much you'v got to go or if you got set back in the last match and enjoy the game instead. Also, if your doing Control, play control and support your team first, worry about the bounty second. 6. Gear - If you love grenades (and who doesn't) then make sure your gear has lots of Discipline to charge them fast! Don't worry about the 'extra ammo' perks for certain weapons, that won't be an issue in PvP. Reload time reduction though is very handy. As said, this is based on my experience so can't promise it will work for anyone else and there may be better advice out there that works for you but I hope it helps at least a bit!
