Whats a World boss?

I support World Bosses. I also support higher level patrols. New World Type Bosses should be made. Edit 1: Please read the whole post before commenting please. And they should do like Star Wars the Old Republic did it, have them in specific areas on the map, and not Random, instead having a "Button" of sorts that activates the World Boss. Much like the pile of bones in the Ol' Loot Cave. But it would require increasing the patrol Guardians from 3-6 but preferably 9. World Bosses in most games are meant to be taken down by very very large crews, basically they are meant to be taken down by all players in the current world. And on say an earth patrol, you really dont want to be hashing out with a World level boss with a bunch of level 5's at your side. Oh!! Even better idea!! A new Patrol button, World Boss Patrol, party size 6, Level Requirement of 32, This way all people in the instance are at least 32. Once the "button" is pushed an alert goes out to all people on the planet. "The World boss has been awakened, backup your fellow Guardians!" Giving all players in the instance time to get there, and it will require a minimum of 14 players to take him down within a decent amount of time. 6 players could do it, but it would take forever. And not some silly bullet sponge, A legit boss. A giant Ogre, bigger than Phogoth. An even more powerful Gatelord. And no Gimmick crap. No Death Containment bubbles, setting fire to the world, none of that. Minor enemy spawns little peons that normally spawn there, all red bar. No Yellows. Also the Bosses should be Red skull bosses, something 3-6 Guardians simply cannot take down by themselves. Areas for them to have their Spawns: Moon -Hellmouth, MF climbs right out and onto that platform. Venus -Over where VoG Starts, MF either A. Smashes right out of the Vault, or B. Cutscene of a Giant Vex gate opening at the bottom of the cliff and he climbs up. Earth - Forgotten Shores, A. Comes up out of the ocean right there starts wreaking Havoc. B. Ketch Lands and drops off the Big Bad. Mars - Mars is a Tough one for me as im not sure of a very good place for a world Boss there. But there is all my idea for it. and i apologize for the length. Please add you comments and ideas below. I feel like this would breathe a lot of new life into patrols for higher level players. Once the level caps increase a third Patrol option should be added increasing the levels of all enemies on the planet again including the level of the world bosses. Edit 2: For those of you who dont know what a world boss is, there are some great videos on youtube, and information to be found on google to give you much more in depth idea of what this is, normall i would provide all that information but it would make this post far too long. Edit 3: I would like to tie in this post to this as it could make a Good reward, or tie it in with something else as a reward. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/132380341/0/0 Edit 4: I would also like to Tie this post in done by @Dead Arashi. It would make a great tie in, and the Currency in his post could be a main drop from the World Boss. Here is his post. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/128964822/0/0 Edit 5: By instituting a lvl 26 and up patrol they could bring back the Blades of Crota and have them there, and by instituting a 30 and up, you have a place for wolves, by instituting 34 and up you have a place for the new TTK one. Appalled i hadnt thought of this before as it keeps special things from each expansion relevant to the player and providing them places to do it while leveling through that expansion. Edit 6: A lot of people are telling me they are adding something similar to world bosses in Court of Oryx. Until they reveal this i will not say it is a world boss, but i will say player activated events is a start. Hopefully if it goes well, they will add more in an update to the other worlds. I hope it is done right and is epic but i am reserving full opinion until i physically play one. If they do and its right i hope this post gains even more support and grows even more, maybe we can get it all that we want here!

  • Getting a team together to fight the World Boss on the Moon. Must be 35, have 366 Gjallarhorn, and a mic. We'll be trying to all individually solo it, so wait your turn to fight it. Destiny community in a nutshell.

    • Good idea, but one problem, to me it's not really a world boss if it comes out of the ocean in the forgotten shore. Or if it comes out of the summoning pits. That's just like a normal boss fight. I want to fight a "world boss" on terrain that wasn't covered yet, do you know what I mean?

      •
And not some silly bullet sponge, A legit boss. A giant Ogre, bigger than Phogoth. An even more powerful Gatelord. And no Gimmick crap. No Death Containment bubbles, setting fire to the world, none of that. Minor enemy spawns little peons that normally spawn there, all red bar. No Yellows.
The difficulty with this model is that the nature of a boss fight is this. A boss must be substantially differentiated from other enemies so as to emphasize its value as upper rank/power. To have a boss, you need at least one of the following features: >Unique or improved AI >Unique or improved abilities (gimmicks) >High damage output >High level of toughness (bullet sponginess) >Unique weakness(es) (gimmicks) What makes a world boss, as you've described the concept, is bullet-sponginess to the degree that numerous players must participate in order to succeed. I think gimmicks are a great way to alleviate this since it adds another level of depth to gameplay by increasing the amount of viable actions a player can use to interact with the game. In the Vault, we see it as the Aegis (commonly known as the Shield); the Aegis has its own unique moveset, "grenade ability," (i.e, the barrier) and Super. It's Atheon's weakness, and coordination is key in bringing down the boss. Now, it goes without saying that we wouldn't want that level of coordination to be a requirement for a world boss; the last thing you want is some troll grabbing the Key Item and goofing around and ensuring all participants fail. But suppose that there was a Fallen Walker world boss, different from the norm. This Walker is using the Glimmer Drill to generate a barrier around itself, and Guardians can choose to either A) rely on their firepower to break through the barrier and mash through the armor plating to reach the gooey caramel center, or B) sacrifice their own shields temporarily to overload the Drill and expose the Walker to conventional weapons. Or perhaps the world boss is a Fallen Stealth Vandal crew of numerous members who need to be hunted throughout the Mothyards. They can evade the tracker--but not your Ghost's pulse when you pull it out! Then they're exposed and it's time to pull triggers. In those examples, you give players something to do besides mash the shoot button. Because it's already a shooter, you're always shooting because the run-of-the-mill enemies need to be shot. By giving bosses the Superman treatment--that is, the normal stuff doesn't work but that green rock there sure does--you differentiate them from the regulars and justify the rewards.

          • A world boss on the Dreadnaught would be amazing. Could be a whole patrol map security defence thing. Everywhere unless you are in special area and not the patrol map. More aggressive enemies and ship defences hit everywhere. You get an icon if where the central command is and know it needs to go down or this event will prevent them from exploring safely. Central command is a dark spirit fire if a golem controlling the ships systems. Hive, various Taken enforce the area. Possible rewards are based on a buff you gain based on how much damage you do to the boss and mobs. Powers a key that unlocks a stasis chest where the Boss dies. Imagine that everyone rushes in. Hopefull what they have done in effort will grant great rewards.

          • Do enough damage and the boss would fly and noticeable head into a new location with a marker. They heal the longer before guardians can attack. Brings in a form of sparrow racing. First to deal damage gets a XP buff of that round. Use the various patrol areas to their best!

          • Hot damn 1200, maybe not as strong running as some posts, but hey this is an idea not a demand for buffs or nerfs so its a slow go, hopefully we get to a point where bungie acknowledges this.

            • Speaking to the World bosses themselves, it always baffled me that there were no creatures affected/awakened/created by the Travelers influence on the Solar system. Some world bosses should be Darkness monsters, yes, but why not have sandworms/sandwyrms on Mars and Ahamkara on Venus too? We could even think outside the box with Darkness monsters. What if we had to fight enemy dropships from the ground? And the Walker tank? What if they made it 30% smaller, 200% faster, let it crawl on walls/scurry across land/jump gaps/go stealth, and boosted the charge speed of the main cannon? A world boss can still be a 6-man job even if it's small and fast I dunno. Just some thoughts.
