I want to get in shape, but how do?

Alrighty everyone. I just finished my Freshman year of Highschool but did no sports at all. I've decided to turn things around and go all out this summer. I want to get fit so I can do sports in spring. The question is, how? I'm about 5'4" and weigh around 107 pounds, so I'm not overweight or anything (I'm actually kind of thin), and I'm not extremely out of shape. I'm just... average. But how do I become above average? I want to do Track and Tennis, with Track being the bigger priority for me. (I've already taken 2 sets of Tennis lessons, so I think I'm set for the school team). I'm just so overwhelmed by the wealth of information on the internet though, and don't know where to start with these things. What would be a good workout regiment for me? I want to be a more "endurance runner" in track going longer distances rather than short ones. Should I start with a mile a day?should I run before breakfast? Should I avoid or eat carbs? I also want to strengthen my arms and abs. I want a 6 pack, but again, am not sure how to do it. Should I do just push ups and crunches? Another reason I want to get in shape is to prove people wrong, and to build confidence. I'm tired of people in my family and school thinking I'll only ever be good at math and English. I want to show them that I have what it takes to succeed, and hopefully, I can wow some people when I get back to school this fall. I'm also rather shy, and while I don't look bad, getting in shape will make me look good, thus building my confidence. Any help is EXTREMELY appreciated! Hopefully, this will be the summer I turn my life around!
sorry if there were grammar mistakes. I'm typing this from my phone and it's kinda late.
Draw polygons on yourself. Do not draw non-polygons though. That is dangerous.
On a more serious note. You are 5'4" and only 107? I was 5'6" and like 135...
• Yes you'll wanna start running a lot. Try to run farther and/or longer every day. Do NOT run before breakfast. It's bad to exercise on an empty stomach. Eat a balanced diet and you should be fine. And drink LOTS of water. As for abs, do: crunches, planks, and any other ab workout you can think of, but also be sure to get lots of cardio in. (This should come with the running). You can have the most toned six pack ever, but no one will see it if it's covered with fat. You'll need to shave a lot of stomach fat off in order to see the abs, but if you're skinny now, you should be in decent shape for this. I would also suggest working your upper body. Push-ups are a great upper body workout. Do about 10-20 a day and you should be good. The numbers I give you are baseline stuff. If you really wanna see results, push yourself. That's the best and fastest way to get results. Don't overwork yourself, but if 10 push-ups are easy, then try 15. If that's easy, try 20. And so on. Also, I should mention that I am not an expert in any of this stuff. I've been taking weights and health class at school for a few years and I've talked with the trainer a lot, but there is a lot I still don't know. This is kind of like my normal routine, but you might want something different. Hope that helps!

  • Im in the same boat, kind of. Just dropped a bunch of weight now I gotta get back in shape. Dont really have much advice, other than the obvious like to balance your diet out and stop drinking soft drinks like soda. Also if you are tryimg to build muscle protine will be your best friend (everything in moderation) I wish the best of luck to you in your endevor! P.s. dont let other people get you down, the few times ive run into you ive thought you were a great guy! Im sure you will accomplish the goals you have set for yourself.

  • Push-ups for upper body. If you run leaning back a bit it'll build your stomach, at least that's what I do. Also make sure to eat a healthy/balanced diet. Meat is super important in building up, but you wanna balance it out with fruits and veggies.

        • >5'4" Lol midget. In all seriousness though, look at the bodybuilding.com forums. There's a lot of really good information there. If you have access to a gym, look up a starter routine and just follow that plan. Doing crunches won't help you get a six pack. They actually might make you look fatter if you don't cut your stomach fat away. Getting a six pack is just about lowering your body fat on your stomach.

            • You just need a good attitude and a hard working spirit. Everything else will fall in place.

              • Just need to get in habit of running a few miles everyday and gradually getting longer and faster. I know this works, I play football and rugby.

                • Stay away from BB.com (full of supplement promoting, uneducated assholes) and do weighted calisthenics like Adam Raw. Dips, pull-ups, push-ups, and squats.
