Because the hunters brain is comparative to that of a moth, they look onto the gun with almost religious zeal. Then they witnessed the power of the warlock's sun singer powers. The sun singer was shinier, and had more shiny spots. This, In turn, saddened and angered the poor dull hunters, causing them to be hostile to any warlock that has crossed their path.
