I would not want this added to the game. If you want to use ancient weapons, that's okay -No Land Beyond is the weapon for you. If you don't want to use No Land Beyond, then that's okay too (no one does), but play a game that takes place in that era of time. Would you expect to find muzzle loading flint-lock muskets in Call of Duty? How about a sword and buckler combination in Battlefield? Doesn't really fit in does it? Plus, Destiny is a fantasy game about using space-magic to defeat the evil armies of genocidal aliens. -Literally the Light against the Darkness. Introducing so many references to the pre-Golden Age like AK-47's and P-90's would go against that fantasy setting. Such equipment doesn't belong in Destiny. It would run against the grain, contradict core fundamentals of the underlying feel of the game, and would pull the legs out from under any storytelling efforts. [spoiler]Plus *giggles a bit* The majority of these weapons wouldn't work in vacuum, so fighting on the moon is out. And there's no way to know how the chemistry behind modern ballistics would react inside of the ether-flooded hallways of a Fallen ketch or the half way terra-formed planet of Venus.[/spoiler]

    While that is true, its doesn't always make for good storytelling. Lord of the Rings is an incredible piece of fantasy. How much would the plot have been derailed if Frodo and Sam took the One Ring and jumped into a pair of F-15 Eagles and flew all the way to Mordor? Or if an emotional scene in Game of Thrones was interrupted when the DeLorean from Back to the Future showed up because Biff typed in the wrong date into the time circuits? It is important when trying to tell a story to keep themes consistent. This is especially true in Fantasy, since a fantasy world has little or nothing in common with the real world. This applies not only to games, but to books, movies, television, even music. Any medium in which you are trying to convey a particular message or attitude to your audience. Introducing elements that are out of place will distract the audience and can easily "break the spell" of storytelling.

    But if you're saying that, Destiny uses guns. Guns are still guns. Also, many of the guns are no different from modern weapons. Basically, they're just painted differently and use different colored tracer rounds. I understand what you're getting at, and I respect your opinion.

    But that is not true. You are close, but you are not taking the romantic angle into account. An M-16 is an M-16 is an M-16. Each weapon is completely identical to the one next to it. The machine of steel and plastic comes off an assembly line and is completely interchangeable with every other M-16. The guns in Destiny are very different. They are exotic, diverse, and have romantic histories, back stories, and names. Names like Thorn, The Last Word, Super Good Advice, and Gjallarhorn. These are specific weapons, weapons that are tied to the game's history and mythology. No one loves their rifle more than Marine Corps riflemen. They say, "This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine." The guns in destiny are more unique than that and are intimately tied to the game's characters, story, and history. Thorn has so much more in common with Darth Vader's lightsaber than it has with a Smith and Wesson .500 And Super Good Advice has much more in common with Narsil from Lord of the Rings than it does with a minigun firing 7.62 NATO.
