Is 35 PoE too hard not to cheese

So, with now 3 weeks of Skolas, with all 3 burns, the strategy has not changed. Everyone drops a titan bubble and unloads everything they have, uses a synthesis, and unloads again. But is this a cheese? When you look at how the mechanics of Skolas are supposed to work, it's obvious that players found a loophole. 1. Servitors are killed and Skolas lowered to about 75-65%. 2. Essence spawns and players must pass essence in a circle. Essence respwans if player holding it dies. 3. 50% - mines spawn 4. 20% - mines spawn All while being 1 level down doing percentage damage. Is Level 35 too hard to do legitimatly? ...Conversation open...

I'm pretty sure the rewards are the same no matter how you beat him. Just play the game. There is no such way of how you are "supposed" to beat him.

  • Here's some tips for you scrubs... never run across the middle next to the cliff instead run along the track that's covered all you have to worry about is captains and vandals spawning while you're running through Stay as low to the ground as possible the higher you go the more you're getting your health taxed. Have 2 people stay left and a Titan go left with blinding go right to cap the middle bomb then the right one. Warlocks do not defuse mines well. Hunters work but the invisible doesn't work that well

  • No it's not a cheese and no it's not a hard fight at all. Teamwork and coordination makes the fight extremely easy,

    • My team had to do it legit. (One guy didn't have any upgraded void guns so we couldn't burn him out quickly) doing it legit wasn't actually that bad. We used the corridor where you enter the arena to stay safe. Basically kill adds and hit the boss when able. Most importantly stay close so you can pass off the AID's at 10 seconds. On mines...hope for the best and that's all you can do lol. We got it legit on the third attempt.
But is this a cheese?
Do you skip fight mechanics during the boss fight using this "strategy"? If so, then it is a cheese. If not, then it isn't. Cheeses are wildly popular and a viable strat used through this game, including by solo players (e.g. negating the use of totems to construct the bridge on CE). For instance, you may have a warlock self-rez during the oracle fight on VoG (cheese); when others may send one down to initiate the fight and take care of the hidden oracle while everyone else snipes from up top (not cheese). What this is clearly not: an exploit. While some people describe using exploits as cheesing, not all cheesing is an exploit. In exploits, players find a glitch, bug, or design loophole within the game or its coding, and exploit it to their advantage. What would be an example of an exploit? Example: Making a countdown with your fireteam so that everyone grabs the chalice in CE at the same time, therefore creating duplicate chalices. Example 2: standing at particular spots on PoE during "dismantle mines" to prevent mobs from being unleashed, while the rest of your team dismantles them. Example 3: heavy ammo glitch There is nothing wrong with burning Skolas at the very beginning to avoid as much of the fight as possible. Though it would be nice to have a group to pick up the mechanics in case you don't burn him down before two mines come up, it is a perfectly fine way to go about it. Even though it is cheesy, it is still a legitimate way to go about it, as you're not taking advantages of bugs or loopholes within the system. The burn is provided to you by the game without any glitching. The day the burn is no longer present, this particular strategy will not be viable. Another cheese may or may not be found, but that's for another day. Cheers.

      • I don't have Fatebringer and Gjallarhorn and beat it the legitimate way. It's all about coordination, skill and thinking on your feet. Control adds and dismantle mines. If you get this under the belt, it's a weekly farm session. By no means is this an easy fight, but 1,000's of Guardians can pull this off without the sniper stagger truth trick.

The jerks at bungie ultimately decide, so if it's a cheese and people whine, they patch it! If bungie knows and doesn't patch, then it isn't a cheese, period!

        • I did it three times this week "legit". It's possible this week due to the enemies not doing any burn damage.

        • Skolas's health is balanced around to the burn modifier and players take advantage of said burn to dish out as much damage as possible. This is not really a cheese and the mechanics are there to add something to get you to move around the map.

        • Note to OP-using your class abilities and weapons you find in the game to kill a boss is not cheese.

        • What do you mean legitimately? Last I checked PoE didn't come with an instruction manual. The adds and mark are punishment for not killing him fast enough. They aren't required if you kill him fast enough. No reason not to kill him ASAP

        • No me and two others beat it first try while passing poison and dismantle mines. Was kind of hard but with 3 warlocks anything is possible.

        • I don't think it's about not taking advantage of the burns. I believe it's more about the strategy of just drop a bubble and wreck till he dies, then do the mines after he's dead. And for the record, I don't hold this opinion. I've seen this around a lot lately so I placed the discussion. I've beaten it at least twice every week so far

        • I'm pretty sure killing the boss and finishing the mines constitutes a legit win. Last week you couldn't just gjallahorn him, I'm pretty sure this week will be similar. You have to push the boss past 50% in your opening volley. Once the first set of mines spawn you get through them. Deal with essence and set the boss up for your second volley and kill him, then deal with the last round of mines. There's nothing cheesy about it. Some weapons/builds are just better at killing him than others. It's hard regardless though of how you do it.

I must be missing something... I don't get this community. So, now we're fully using game mechanics only and its a cheese. I had a forum member tell me we're not even supposed to use burn weapons when a burn is available. If Bungie didn't want us to fight him without our best weapons, then they'll do something about it. I haven't seen them address the way we kill Skolas yet so it look likes we're doing nothing wrong. This is a legitimate strategy and if you don't have appropriate weapons for the burns, then you're only to blame. Another point, I keep hearing people wanting Skolas nerfed and how they can't beat it... Yet everyone is now calling the method of sniping Skolas a cheese. So is it easy or hard guys, make your pick.

        • Every run we've done has been the way it was intended in some people's eyes. It's really not that hard. If you can stand there and just wreck him, good job. Running it the "intended" way took us 20 minutes. But who's to say what the intended way is? Either way it's not that difficult. Run around the outside, stop and shoot in a couple places. Control ads for a minute and repeat. The mines aren't that bad as long as you all run together. 2 rounds of mines and all you have to worry about is swapping the essence while you shoot skolas

        • Quick question on what you classify as a cheese. I thought despawning ads on the bridge in CE, pushing off Templar and Athlon were cheeses? Maybe I'm wrong but isn't killing the final boss using normal weapons (no glitches or flaws) and finishing mines, etc...the goal? I guess I'm confused on how killing everything legit in PoE is a cheese.

        • Pro Tip: Have a Warlock take the essence from whom ever has it and let him die/self rez.. This will give you a clear 45 seconds to worry about the last of Skolas' health and the mines!
