On top of that how is it that Scout rifles in general have shorter barrels than pulse and assault rifles? That makes absolutely no sense.
They're all projectile firing kinetic damage weapons (elemental weapons aside). Scouts should have the longest barrels among primary weapon types. For the most part longer barrel = higher projectile stability (accuracy and range) as well as higher velocity at range (higher KE or impact).
That said this game is fun as hell and I'm willing to ignore it all and enjoy. But you're correct that it wouldn't have hurt to make some of this more logical.

Edited by JustOnePepsi: 5/26/2015 10:02:36 PMScout rifles are bullpup and the auto rifles are not. Though the pulse rifles are also bullpup (in a much more realistic/traditional sense). Technically, the barrels on all of them should be about the same (though that's certainly not a rule, just a generalization), but scout and pulse rifles should be shorter than auto rifles overall. That was actually one of the only issues with the human arsenal in Halo. The Assault Rifle was obviously meant to be bullpup, but it was absolutely massive. It made the bullpup design superfluous. They obviously chose it because bullpup = futuristic.
