I totally appreciate the comparison and research. I think it actually has more to do with the technicalities of the game. Bungie can absolutely make realistic guns. To have the combat animation look appealing, the hand movement attractive on screen, and to make it all fit within the perspective of the focal point they are using, the guns models had to have certain parts in certain locations. The other answer is yup, space magic.
