Many of the weapons and mechanics of this game would not work in real life, and you make a great point. But if they followed real life mechanics and expectations, we wouldn't be able to get weapons like the Ice Breaker.

Fantasy weapons are not comparable to illogical designs based on real-world counterparts. Impossible/alien weapons/abilities are a given... but these weapons are based on actual designs, and they represent those designs poorly.
