Hate to break it to you champ, but there would be a very very small percentage of people who would look at the guns in destiny and go, "that's ridiculous!! How dare they not design them 100% correctly!?". So no, I don't think bungie looked at them and went "this is just absurd". They probably just thought they looked cool.
