Why do a ton of atheists have a superiority complex?
This is coming from an agnostic atheist btw.
UPDATE: Most of you are just proving my point, so...
UPDATE x2: I'm getting really sick of the same old "not all atheists do" response. I'm aware. Maybe you people should read the post body and other comments before posting the exact same thing over again.

I absolutely HATE people that call themselves superior to another human being. They are the most disgusting people to ever live and are the absolute scum of the earth. I would NEVER call myself superior to another human.

On the internet, you see the fedora neckbeard atheist types more, sure, but in real life and also on the internet, I see religious people acting superior far more. No other group of people has self rightousness and superiority more ingrained in their teachings.

I'm willing to bet that most atheists don't have a superiority complex. I think what you're hearing/reading are the vocal minority. I'm an athiest. I have catholic, and Muslim friends. They have some very vocal minority groups within their religions as well. [spoiler]It's not the belief structure that makes someone an asshole.[/spoiler]

I'm so confident in that, I could care less about what others think or who they choose to worship. However, every so often a group comes a long that absolutely deserves the ridicule they bring upon themselves. Also, how the hell can you be an agnostic atheist? The translation and etymology doesn't work like that.

1 ReplySuperiority complex. Don't quite remember the specifics of the meaning. But the answer is conformity. No, wait. Right. Rich people. You know how some rich people often consider themselves above others because of their wealth? Their wealth makes them better? It's a sense of security. And a fake one at that. It's the very same reason why some people like to put other people down. When they put others down, they get a fake ego boost and a reassurance in themselves. Your question, is actually mistaken. Why do so many people, in general and not just supposedly athiests, have, superiority complexes? Because they're insecure. People like to feel safe and correct in their convictions and ways of doing things. So they put up some blinds over their eyes and say hello to a falsely constructed reality in which they mean something.

I think the problem is new atheists and hipster atheists Newatheists, let's call them, are very verbal and in your face about not believing in a god suddenly. They just want everyone to know what they think at all costs, and I've seen this happen, and it is painful to watch. Then there's the Hipatheists (let's call them). A bunch of douchebags pretending to be something and pretending to know everything. I was raised in a nonreligious family and have always kept it to myself. No reason to go and piss all over everyone about it, that's why some people have very little respect for the nonreligious.
