Destiny you paid for a beta tester not a game.

Basically it seems like they are still trying to figure it out when in fact it was already done. What we end up with is a story full of holes, like who really knows what's going on and who goes off game to read the grimoire. While I appreciate them listening to the players it seems that the game started as one awesome epic mmo has evolved into basically a shooter with an emphasis on pvp even though only 10% of players play pvp (thanks to Activision for trying to push a call of Duty game plan). With every update comes hey let's try this or let's try that. My question is where are the visionaries who originally designed destiny and why did they let this game get butchered and my hope is that this games future content is more solid and concrete. I want a full game up front with Destiny 2,3 and so forth I don't want betas unless they are free testers and I don't want bits of content pulled from the game then sold back to me when I have paid full price for a full game. Thanks for reading.

The original lead writer, Joseph Staten, left Bungie around January 2014. Presumably because of a dispute over Destiny with Activision. At which point they rewrote the whole game story and introduced the grimoire, which would would explain the choppy dialogue and lack of story. A game that had been in development for 7 years would never be this lacking unless something huge happened near the end of the dev cycle. Staten went to 343 to continue with Halo, of I'm not mistaken.

  • Best beta I have ever paid for. The betas these company are throwing around for founders prices and you get nothing but a barely playable game. So yeah if this is a beta it kicks ass.

What I want to know is why is there still no way to set up groups and the like in game? Why is there still no LFG system in the tower? For a developer with as much status as Bungie has they shouldn't be leaving things like this up to the player base. An in-game LFG should have been in day one.

The thing is the majority of their audience including these forums are younger players and what I like to call the "mobile gaming generation." They want simple watered down non-complex content and don't care about story driven content or well developed characters. I'd be willing to bet at least 80% of Destiny's playerbase simply just want to get on for a few hours with their friends and shoot aliens in the face and that is all they care about. Mobile games make a TON of money on pretty much the exact same model we see being used in Destiny in terms of the content. This mobile gaming model is going to start spilling over into consoles because the companies have seen how much money there is to be made there by just putting out simple repetitive watered down content. Just the pay walls in Destiny are the DLC releases. There is going to be a huge DLC drop in September (Taken King) and considering it has nearly 3 times the content of the prior two DLCs that dropped for $20, I would assume it is going to cost at least $40-60 as another "add on" to the game. At that point you'll have spent $150ish and still don't have what I would call a full game content wise. We are just lucky Activision still has enough sense to not put microtransactions in Destiny, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it soon as it is in the contract with Bungie that microtransactions are allowed as an add on to the game. I just see so many people calling this one of the best games they've ever played and the only logical conclusion I can draw from that is that the majority of Destiny's playerbase is very young and either hasn't played many games or just doesn't know any better.

    • Probably won't buy HoW. Definitely won't buy Destiny 2. Tired of paying more money to keep playing. I prefer games that you pay for once, and get all the content for...

      • People we are consumers our money can make or break this company. The absolutely great thing is that Bungie knows this and listens to us and that's what makes Bungie and their team great. This post may sound like complaining to some of you but it's not. It is simply a way to relay the message to Activision and Bungie that we will not have the wool pulled over our eyes twice, don't promise diamonds then give us coal! We have the power to not accept this kind of bs and if we say nothing then that's exactly what we'll get.
power to the players
Since the story is still ongoing.....Its hard to say the story is full of holes. That would be like picking up a book reading 2 chapters and putting it down in disgust because they have not yet explained how the villain showed up at the heroes doorstep. Now hopefully as the game progresses then more and more of the story comes to light but so far the premise of the story and what we have at this point is intriguing. It might come to nothing...it might be pretty epic. Right now its definitely better than any Battlefield or COD game storyline.

              • The gameplay experience is definitely a good time, main reason I return to play. However I don't know what this company was thinking when it came to the story. There's no way they couldn't be aware of a butchered non present storyline. There's just no way. On paper it makes no sense and even more so experiencing it. No one is asking for cutscenes at every corner but we would still like to know the who's what's where's when's whys and hows. We're missing the social-emotional element to our characters and the characters in destiny. As it stands everyone is just there to give you an item or experience points. I feel an attachment to the gameplay experience playing with friends however I don't feel in any way that's I'm emotionally invested into any characters. Technically we don't know any of the characters past their name, maybe their faction and class. Our guardian is just mindlessly slaughtering alien species.

                  • I can agree with you on most parts but you should probably do a bit of research before throwing out random percentages. I'm quite sure more than 10% of the destiny population plays pvp cause quite frankly once you beat all the end game content and get what you want there's really nothing else to do.

                    • I prefer the grimoire cards to be on the app. When I'm playing the game I want to be playing, in the action, not reading a chunk of text in a menu screen somewhere.
