Y-you are aware that what you said isn't satire, right?... Satire requires one to make a clever statement which humorously underlines a flaw in the system. You just stated something that a portion of the community actually wants to do. "I'm hungry. You know what time it is? Time for a SANDWICH! Satire, right?" Nope. Some people eat sandwiches when they're hungry, in the same way that some people want to kick DeeJ out when they're annoyed. Not satire.

  • Satire: the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues. synonyms: mockery, ridicule, derision, scorn, caricature That's taken directly from Google search, which I deem significantly more credible than you. the use of humor: relative, but some people would check that box Expose and criticize people's stupidity: like you said, some people actually want to do what I "suggested." Check. Context: I think DeeJ's just about the most relative topic that could be on these forums besides Destiny itself. Check. This is the definition of satire. Either your definition and opinion is wrong, or Google and it's widely edited and understood fact is wrong, bludgeoning my post. Whoopsiedaisies I think I just used logic, my bad

I apologise for how harsh my initial comment was. I believe that your post, in my opinion, hasn't gone far enough in the way of any examples of which you have stated; humour, irony, exaggeration, et cetera. My main issue with the post lies in the fact that it doesn't really underline just how ridiculous many individuals' statements are. As an example of this, instead of using silly words, perhaps make more obtuse accusations. "DeeJ, I was in the Tower the other day, playing with the purple ball no less, and some random comes along and kicks it right off of the edge! That's it! I've had it with your crap! I hope Bungie fires you..." Through ridiculous execution, the example is criticising the stupidity of those who are blaming DeeJ for everything, along the same vein as the "thanks Obama" meme. Through the use of sarcasm, this particular issue that a portion of the community has is brought to the limelight and scrutinised. As your thread stands, it is just repeating what many have actually said about DeeJ and then claims it to be satire. Quite like parody, satire loses all meaning if it's essentially exactly the same as what other people are legitimately talking about. This would be different if it were put into a different context to underline the actual stupidity of it all, à la 'Animal Farm', but that's straying a bit from your original post. I apologise for not getting the exact dictionary definition for you, but I believe what I have said to still apply. Please excuse the fact that my statements don't line up exactly with your Google search, however I think that years of experience enjoying satirical content have helped to forge my understanding of it. A good forum contributor to look up is Longface (the guy with o________________o as his username). He has some amazing "satire" posts which will do a far better job of showing you what I mean. I'm just trying to help you improve for next time. Have fun out there, Guardian.

  • But if I believe that these "legitimate" posts of hating DeeJ are blown way out of proportion already, wouldn't it be satire to simply repeat that idiotic idea? My humor is subtle, I get that. I could have exaggerated a bit more looking back, but the idea itself is satirical to me because of its ridiculous claim about what DeeJ does and its overall schematic: DeeJ apparently does bad things, so we should kick him out of the forums? How will we go about doing that? We have no control over what DeeJ does or these forums in general! I believe that this is as much a ridiculous post as a #satire tag would deserve, I just take a much more civilized and lighter approach than the amazing overkill that is longface. It may not be as popular or as funny or outright and direct as longface, but it is satire nonetheless. Sometimes, the best satire is the kind that can just make people smile, not necessarily fall out of their chair and pee their pants laughing.

  • Unfortunately, satire that reiterates the ridiculousness of a topic without making the issue more obvious simply blends in with the straight-faced examples. As another has posted in response to my comment, it doesn't have to be funny, but there does need to be a clever analogical play or over-exaggeration in order to identify the problem. Maybe it's just a difference in opinion.

  • You do know that satire doesn't need to be humorous... right?

  • What OP attempted was humerous satire, so I'm commenting on what is required for the post to fit said bill.
