The Player: Chapter 2

Immeadiately following the welcoming committee, the Guardians roused up the few hundred in the courtyard. But if my theory was correct, that all the players playing at the moment we were transported, then there were still players outside of the Tower. Who knows where they could've spawned in. Some Guardians stopped for a minute and halted their progress of moving the few hundred into the Tower. They ran towards the hangar, and some ships flew out into orbit, presumably to get a few people. "Quinn?" "Yes, Casper?" "There are Guardians other than the people here." "I believe everyone playing at that moment got transported, but it seems only to apply to people in the States. How are you tracking them, Cas?" "They have incredibly strong light, you call yourself players, but your light almost surpasses that of the Traveler." "I'm sure it's nothing to worry about, little flicker." "Little flicker? You have an interesting way of coming up with nicknames." I shrugged and allowed myself to be pushed by the throng of players, it appeared there were different sections of living areas. They split the around four hundred of us into different sections of the Tower. Players who spawned in their own cells went first, knowing where they were going. "Cell 34." A Guardian guided me into my own private space. "Thank you. I have a question." "Go ahead." Unlike some of his fellow soldiers, this one didn't have his helmet on. He was an Exo, with blue metal, and green LEDs for eyes; or maybe they were actually eyes, I decided not to ponder on it. "We're Guardians, do we get any kind of training?" "You do, in fact." He made a slightly robotic chuckle. "Beginning tomorrow." The Exo shut my door in my face, I blinked and turned to my bed. He didn't sound very old, maybe sixteen or something. I checked my pockets, something I should've down sooner. I located the case to my retainers, a pencil, and some money. I took out my retainers, and placed them in my case. Placing the red container on the small nightstand by my bed. "Quinn? What do you plan to do?" "The things I can, Cas." "I have a definite number on how many players there are." "How many?" I turned to face my ghost, a companion I was looking forward to spending the foreseeable future with. "About 458." "That little? My theory is wrong then." "It appears so, Quinn." I rubbed my hands together and sat on the bed. It's been an hour and I'm not having a meltdown over this, that's surprising. "Anxiety?" "If you're going to invade my vitals, then do it discreetly at least." "Actually, I was looking at the nerves in your brain." I grunted in acknowledgement. There was an analog clock on the wall, I deciphered about 7:13. But wether in the morning or in the evening, it was hard to tell due to my cell not having a window. I got bored of staring at my shoeless feet, and decided to explore. I guess I was too busy dealing with the ruckus we caused earlier to remember that I kicked off my shows when I got on Xbox. I looked out the window in the hall and saw that it was actually evening. "Where are you going?" Casper asked from my shoulder. He'd been constantly residing there since I woke up about an hour earlier. So much happened in a little amount of time. "Would you like to come along, little flicker?" Casper seemed to think about it, then agreed to accompany me. Rather than going to the door to the club, I went the other direction down the hallway with the wall window. The setting sun cast the sky in flame of tangerine and violet. For once, it seemed, I felt peace. Maybe it was because I was away from my past life, the memories were still there, the ones that made me cringe and grip my shirt. Memories that made me hold my head in my hands and try not to cry, or scream in rage. Maybe it was the absence of my parents, or my sister, or even my closest friends. The separation of my old life, from this new one that I've been placed in. "What's troubling you, Quinn? You seem awfully quiet, not that I know what your normal mien is like." I chuckled at my ghost's bashful behavior. "I just realized this, Casper, but I've found the reason that why there are so few players and possibly why everyone was angry in the first place." "And that is?" "We've been transported to a death sentence, outside of our comfort zones, from the controller to reality. And some people either can't handle that stress, or they were too late to realize what had happened." I could hear the tension I placed in the atmosphere. "Interesting theory." I continued my walk and watched the colors of the sky fade to the dark of night.
I'm currently vacationing and won't be able to post Chapter 3 as soon as you guys might like...
