Useless weapons

So I'm not intending for this to become a weapons slagging contest, clearly one person's go-to gun of endless satisfaction is another's pooey stick of misery but after a brief conversation recently it made me think about how many maxed out weapons I've got gathering dust in the vault. Apologies to those new to the game, I know how frustrating it is when your collection includes just lone legendary weapon and a trophy cabinet overflowing with exotics seems eons away but I look at my own vault and there are six maxed out exotics I never use and twice as many legendary's, as well as a good smattering of half interesting weapons that still have that new car smell to them. So, what to do? The effort and dedication that's gone into amassing this collection makes me reluctant to simply scrap them for a few meagre shards of uselessness. My son plays (Level 27), and I'd love to take him into the games room one day, open up the vault and say to him "Go on son, your time has come, take your pick." It would also be nice to choose how a weapon breaks down so I can fill my parts bin with something useful. Trading would be good too - half a dozen 'No Land Beyonds' for a Gjallahorn? Don't mind if I do! Any other suggestions we could lobby Bungie with?

 • Great topic! Like yourself I've collected a number of weapons I no longer use having found a less situational exotic/legendary. There are very few exotics that are truly must have weapons. The others have a characteristic/perk that shine in a specific location. I'm currently having a lot of fun rediscovering old locations testing out new legendary/exotics. I picked up the 4th Horseman months ago but have only just started using it; usually in ROC strikes to force an "up close and personal" style of play and the madness that follows :-) It's hilarious when the other players catch the bug and are shotgunning there way to oblivion. Bungie has repeatedly shown that it's willing to change how weapons classes perform so no doubt what's ordinary today may be better tomorrow and vice versa. No doubt HoW will introduce new situations where old weapons become relevant again and on that basis I'm going to stick with the majority of my current exotics and my key legendarys.
