Had an interesting discussion today with some friends on this and a neat idea popped out that feels like the Prison of Elders just might implement:
If you consider:
- Bungie has stated that only an elite part of the Destiny community actually Raids because 6 person teams are hard to organize.
- 3 person teams are quite easy to organize.
- That they were considering LFG mechanics for the future of endgame activities.
- That endgame content doesn't play that well matchmaking individuals.
Then consider:
- There isn't really any competitive PVE mode in the game.
What if:
- The Prison of Elders is a 6+ player experience, but it matchmakes teams of 3?
- What if those teams compete?
When I imagine what that could be like (done well), I think the result could very quickly silence the "I'm leaving because there is no raid" crowd.

There shouldn't be matchmaking for endgame pve if there is it should be optional. Or rather a choice between a queue or going in solo. I would rather solo endgame pve then play with the random you get doing roc or heroic.

Interesting thought. But honestly I don't think bungie has the balls to implement something like that. It would be interesting to race to the finish against another team of 3 or try and get a better score. I think a leaderboard with scores and times that we can look at is more likely as a way of competing against another people. But even then I think that is unlikely :(

But Bungie did have the balls to implement Raids in a shooter which is a much higher risk thing if you think about it. And that's what's got everyone bugging out. I'm going to wait and see, but I'll wager that this Prison of Elders activity is probably going to surprise the hell out of everyone.
