Take a shingen equivalent auto rifle and compare it to a mid fire pulse rifle. In other words Monte Carlo vs bad juju. Both with smart drift control as their barrel option. Now most people would say the bad juju is the better gun in terms of raw dps right? That's only half true. The fact of the matter is, the bad juju has 20% more precision damage per second than the Monte Carlo, however, the Monte Carlo has 20% more non precision damage per second than the bad juju. Yes. The slow firing ARs were nerfed hard, but they're also the easiest weapon to use in the game, it makes sense that they should be the weakest. I dont disagree that they may have been nerfed a little too hard but if you look at that lofty 16% dps nerf that vanquishers and the like took, the end result in PvP was that the gun requires 1 more bullet minimum to kill than before, with a greater percentage of those shots in the head to achieve that minimum. That minimum is now just slightly longer the average players ability to pace out 3 hand cannon shots, thus making the gun feel weaker is a straight trade. Basically, they matched the TTKs so that missing a shot with the semi auto weapon didn't doom you to a death from getting bodied by an auto rifle.

 • Agree with u except when the vex first came out it was too powerfull in PvP it could kill in 4 body shots even used by an unskilled player they would do the best in the lobby 90 percent of the time. And people were knocking aetheon off the map to get it.

 • But that argument also highlights how stupid and pointless the actual overall damage nerf was. In crucible we're hitting for say 50 damage, so like you said it's maybe an extra round. So why piss of such a large section of the player base over that? Just dropping the effective range or lowering accuracy more at distance would have solved the only AR issue which was some of them having the range and accuracy of scouts. The other problem with the way they did it is that in PvE at max level where rounds crit in the hundreds, that 16% shows up much more and that really pissed people off. Also I'd ask if you thought ARs were dominant before? I switched to pulse rifles from ARs before the patch was announced and I didn't see any drop in performance between the two. I just hate all the nerf posts. We all have minds that should be able to formulate how to adapt and overcome. Challenge is good. Facing better competition is good. That's how you improve and get good at things.

 • In some cases math and mechanics don't allow for the option of counter play. To be honest, no I don't think they were all that overpowered before the patch at least in terms of their raw dps. It was the range and accuracy that made them feel powerful. The suros was the exception. The ADS glitch that functions in pvp, giving players the bonus damage without the fire rate penalty. Most players didn't even realize they were doing it, but the fact of the matter was that glitch gave the suros a TTK even shorter than the current 2 burst 6 headshot red death without even needing to land headshots. I feel that in general the guns are more balanced now than they've ever been. I've been killed by ARs as much as any other primary lately. I play a lot of rumble, 1v1 trading with another player ultimately comes down to who sees who first but I think the primary's each exceed in their intended ranges.
