1 ReplyI never did one of these before, but I love Halo threads (LoA ones are the best lol) and saw a comment that sparked some thoughts in my head, so I decided to do a thorough analysis based off of what I know from Literature. Well, heregoes, please ignore any typos cause I'm on a phone and it took forever to type. [b]---TLDR---[/b] Chief overcomes his lowest point in his Hero's Journey and overpowers Locke in order to finish his "mission" for the greater good of himself and humanity. Just an idea[/quote] Remember in the 1st video, the reporter talks about "coverups of coverups". Somehow, John, was at a boxing ring when he was 12 years old, and managed to be there more than once. We know at this time, the real John is with Halsey and Mendez while the flash clone should definitely have died by then. This leaves a whole gap, a [i]6 year long one[/i] at that, since if I remember correctly the clone died when it was 6. Did Halsey create a clone for the family, and ONI used her research to create more clones? Was Halsey secretly experimenting? (Improbable imo). Theres obviously something we don't know yet, but its something big. Based off the trailers, if you look closely, both are a battlefield. However, in Agent Locke's video, the statue is mostly intact. However in Master Chief's video, the statue is broken off in parts with fire strewn about in the background of the scenes. I may be overanalyzing, but I think that may represent part of Chief's "Epic" or Hero's Journey. [b]Locke Video[/b]- The background could show Locke's tenacity and fearlessness even for the Master Chief and his glory, even though his mission is to hunt him down. He starts off walking through an abandoned building that seems to be intact (atleast from what we see) despite metal beams and concrete structures being blown up everywhere. This could go to show how at first, when he hunts the Chief, he is sane and prepared for the hunt. But when he nears closer and closer to the Chief, he thinks more irrationally and aggressively, stating how HE will be the new savior despite Chief being the reason the Galaxy is still [i]alive.[/i] The closer he nears to Chief, the more broken and damaged the environment is around him. This possibly shows Locke's downfall in the story in contrast to the Chief. The Chief is knocked down to show the Hero is at his weakest point, a common [i]theme[/i] in a Hero's Epic Tale. The Further Locke gets to Chief, the more serious his voice gets, possibly symbolizing some jealousy out of what he speaks to Chief. Above Chief on the statue it says "Duty and Honor above all". This contrasts with what we're receiving about Chief's image, as he clearly is a man on a mission for good. Onto the next one. [b]Chief video-[/b] In this clip, there statues is broken apart in places and has a more destructive looking environment, with flames burning the ground. As the roles are switched, Chief is the one in control this time. He doesn't seem to be afraid or running anymore, but instead overcoming his lowest point and facing the truth, albeit stronger. Locke could potentially symbolize his past and coming to terms with everything he lost for everything he came to save. On top of that, it could be the darker side of his past since it has been confirmed multiple times, Halo 5 will be the "darkest" Halo yet. Everything about the Spartan II's is shady, but especially Master Chief. Such as where does he come from, who is he, what does he do, and does he really keep us safe, as asked by the Reporter. This is also noted by Locke, as he has access to Master Chief's file and delved deep into his past to find out who he really is. As we see in the video, Chief seems betrayed or annoyed himself, as in all of the ads it clearly doesn't depict who is the Betrayer and who is the Betrayed. He speaks to Locke as if Locke wasn't thinking rationally, even asking "[i]After everything you've compromised, everything you've done, was it worth it?[/i]." Clearly showing Chief is the one with a clear vision in his mind. I believe this alludes to a potential battle between Locke and Chief as Locke obviously had to sell out somebody or something, hurt somebody, or go AWOL to "compromise" any kind of mission he may have had. As the roles are switched in the second video and judging based off Chief's monologue, it appears to take place after Locke's video and monologue. This leads me to suspect that Master Chief and Locke battle it out, with Locke coming out on top. This makes Chief look old, outdated, and not dependable as Earth or the Galaxy's protector anymore. When Chief is laying beneath the statue, we see "Duty and Honor above all" enscribed above his head. This could serve to be a reminder to Chief and an allusion that even though he is AWOL, he hasn't forgotten his mission and is doing what he believes is the greater good for the survival and protection of humanity. Nobody believes the Chief can save them, but Halsey and they Librarian have faith he can bring forth the Reclamation of the Mantle for Humanity. As Chief is defeated, he is at his lowest point. Remembering how far he has come and everything he has done leading up to this point, he finds renewed faith in himself (or by another character) and again is hunted down and confronts Agent Locke. This time around, the Chief puts in work and puts Locke to the ground. This symbolizes Chief overcoming not only the lowest point in his "Epic" but overcoming his own personal flaws in the form of Agent Locke, who essentially Personifies Chief's Dark past. He proves not only to himself, but to Agent Locke, ONI, and anybody else he is as capable, willing, and determined as ever before to save Humanity, no matter the cost. Even stating "You have finished your mission, Spartan Locke, but mine, is only just beginning."
