Sometimes just the Yellow Hydras (ultras) count for the Grimoire and the red ones are ignored so to reach the level II I just face the Arcon assault multiple times to kill the 5 yellow hydras in Venus.

Mine's the opposite, and there's only like 2 other non-yellow hydras in the game... Same with Ogres... -
I farmed mine on patrol at entrance gate to black garden. Spawns every 30 sec or so

Much easier to farm hydra kills towards the end of the black garden quest.
