I don't know much about halo, I've owned Playstation forever, and I only know what I know about halo from playing multiplayer and having friends tell me. But this trailer looks -blam!-ing awesome

I know! If you want anything about the story explained though, I'm your man.
-
Okay then. How about an explanation of the whole halo story? Starting from the beginning.
-
From the beginning? Damn dude, that would take me like two hours to type up.

Edited by Jacoby04: 3/30/2015 11:48:01 PMWhy not make it a thread? I know the story, but I'd give it a read anyway.

It would literally exceed the 10,000 character limit.

Reply to it? I'd up vote the replies.

Not worth the effort IMO.

If you have time. Or just a short version. Lmao

In 2525, humanity made first contact with intelligent extraterrestrials. An alien religious alliance known as the Covenant. Our attempt at peace was met by plasma fire. The place of first contact, our colony of Harvest, was glassed, it's surface scorched with plasma until the oceans and atmosphere boiled away and the soil was vitrified. To the rest of humanity, contact with Harvest was lost. battlegroups were sent to find the cause and reestablish contact. Only one ship returned. It brought news of an alien ship with Harvest destroyed and a message in perfect English: "Your destruction is the will of the Gods, and we are their instrument." With an alien alliance with superior technology declaring war against humanity with genocidal intent, humanity's greatest Admiral was called out of retirement to lead a fleet of 80 ships just to destroy one. Upon arriving, the fleet suffered heavy losses. But Admiral Cole was able to coordinate the fleet to fire on the ship at the same time, breaching it's energy shields, and destroying the ship. The war would drag on for 27 years, and humanity would be burned from every world the Covenant found. The war followed a predictably depressing pattern, while the UNSC (United Nations Space Command; the United Earth Government's military branch) could contend with the Covenant on the terrestrial battlefield, the one in space, wasn't so even sided. Covenant warships were more advanced than UNSC ships in every regard. In order for it to be considered an even fight, the UNSC would need to outnumber a Covenant fleet by 3 to 1. By 2552, the UEG's outer colonies had been considered destoryed by the Covenant. While some Outer Colonies did survive, they were in Covenant controlled space, and couldn't be helped. The Inner Colonies were now being picked off and suffering heavy losses. However, a plan was created to end the war. Operation: RED FLAG. Utilizing the remaining SPARTAN-IIs, humanity's greatest soldiers, an AI advanced beyond any other (Cortana), and a warship (the Pillar of Autumn) outfitted with advanced tech. As Operation: RED FLAG was prepared for at Reach, humanity's fortress among the stars, our military hub world, a Covenant fleet of over 300 ships arrived in system. Operation: RED FLAG was scuttled by the captain of the Pillar of Autumn, and it was redirected to aid in the defense of Reach. Ultimately, Reach's defense grid fleet of over 150 ships and 20 orbital Super Magnetic Accelerator Cannons would be destroyed, and only a single Spartan, the Master Chief Petty Officer John 117, would make it back aboard the Autumn before it fled Reach. As it fled Reach, a Covenant armada would follow it. With Covenant ships faster than UNSC ones, the armada would beat the Autumn to it's destination. When the Autumn finally reached it's destination, it found a massive artifact of unknown origin, a giant ring world with the inside of it habitable, Halo. Not wanting to damage Halo, the Covenant instead sent boarding craft. To prevent the Covenant from gaining valuable UNSC knowledge, the Master Chief was tasked with getting Cortana off the ship and protect her, while the Captain Keyes would crash lang the ship on the ring. That's it for now, and by the way, this is the short version I'm giving you. Meaning I skipped a couple thousand years of history on purpose, and am leaving out other details.
-
Okay I got the gist of it. So what is the deal with the forerunners and the rings?
-
Forerunners are an old civilization that was the dominant race in the Milky Way for around 10,000,000 years. They upheld the Mantle of Responsibility, which is guardianship of all life in the galaxy. Approximately 100,000 years ago, the Flood entered our galaxy from beyond its borders and laid siege to the Forerunners. Misappropriating the Flood as a disease rather than the true cosmic horror it is lead the Forerunners to severely misjudge the Flood, allowing them to make serious gains into their civilization. By the time the Forerunners realized the true threat the Flood had posed it was too late. Eventually, they made use of Halo, a weapon initially designed to combat the Flood's advance. A weapon capable of killing sentient life. Tuned to a proper frequency, Halo could encompass the entire galaxy. Which is ultimately what was done in the end. The surviving Forerunners, realizing that they had failed the Mantle, left the galaxy, and placed humanity as their heirs to the Mantle.
-
Okay, I understand that, but I still feel like I'm not getting the full picture of the forerunners. Also, could you tell me about the Team of Spartans?
also why everyone likes MC
-
Can you elaborate on what you want to know about the Forerunners that I'm not telling you?
-
Idk, it might just be me. It just feels like I don't have a face for the name. What is the history with Master Chiefs team?
-
I can provide pictures of Forerunner civilization if you want.
-
That's okay, I beat us to it. Already looked up some stuff on the wikia. Halo lore is very interesting. Could you tell me more about John-117 and his team?
-
You mean Blue Team?
-
Yeah sure I guess
-
I was working on a post regarding Blue Team for Imgur. It's not done yet, but you can read it here: http://imgur.com/a/sJONy

Sweet, now reading this I have two last question. Who is agent Locke, and what makes him so important in the Halo 5 trailer. And Who/what are the Promethians?
Sweet, now reading this I have two last question. Who is agent Locke, and what makes him so important in the Halo 5 trailer. And Who/what are the Promethians?
Agent Locke is an ONI agent who specializes in target tracking and capturing/eliminating. His latest mission is to track down the Master Chief. Whether it's to capture or kill, we don't know yet, but the trailer gives us a pretty good indication. The Prometheans are an elite sect of the Forerunner Warrior-Servants. Towards the end of the Forerunner-Flood War, the Prometheans agreed to be composed by the Didact in order to combat the Flood without the threat of biological infection. While effective, it wasn't enough, which lead the Didact to conscript the majority of humanity into his Promethean ranks

Might want to pull up a chair and put on your reading glasses. If he answers your question fully, this is gonna take a long time.

I know, I'm in class so I can wait
