(Outside the U.S. most people use a period instead of a comma to signify one thousand.)

  • So upon further research, it appears that there is a more even split in the use of commas versus decimal points for digit grouping. With India using the comma, it means comma usage is more common than decimal point usage. Apparently, however, the international standard is to use a space. Now I know.
