And people on the forums keep trying to act like shotguns aren't a problem still. Jesus fućking Christ. I don't think it's necessarily shotguns by themselves though. It's just the blink/shotgun combo, or someone getting a shotgun with perks like knee pads, or hunters sing the ability to slide further. Some of the abilities/perk rolls is what's breaking the PVP. It's very possible to counter some of the weapons people say are OP and stuff. But when someone blinks towards/over you with a shotgun, you pretty much can't do shit. Same with someone that has knee pads and is sliding at you 50 mph with range finder and/or shot package. It's pretty much a confirmed kill no matter what you do.

  • I still hold to the opinion that the maps force a certain playstyle (blink shotgun) to reign supreme. We have huge open areas connected by little hallways. That begs for shotguns. Shotguns would not be a problem on, say, a larger scaled (to make movement feel similar) version of the pit from H3. Better maps leads to better balance. These maps are terrible.

  • I completely agree. Maps are the reason shotguns are used so much. a balanced map like scrapyard from mw2 would still allow some shotgun play but make other weapons just as usable as the player would have to choose his play style

  • I actually have not seen as much Blink combo lately, I've almost forgotten it's a thing. Really, the issue is just overabundant Secondary ammunition. Make it slightly less scarce than Heavy, say, two clips' worth of ammo per crate (depending on crate respawn) and players will be a lot less inclined to shotgun-run PvP.

  • In Halo: Reach, you'd only get 1-1.5 clips usually IIRC. Except for a stupid fuel rod gun on Spire that spawned with like 5 magazines of death.

  • They'd just shift to invective or perks that grant ammo in that event, I think. Or use the VOG sniper with field scout. You get crazy good ammo on that rifle to start a match with, using that perk. Everyone sitting around trying to be a sniper or hiding in corners with a shotgun is what ruined COD multiplayer, and you'll see more and more of those as time goes on unless they stop running around all nerf happy and put some legit full size maps out for all the playlists. Actually fixing the tiny ass repetitive rotations would be fun too, lol.

I'm not sure Invective's ammunition regen works in Crucible. I use mine often but I haven't noticed it ticking up another four rounds. If there were no starting Secondary, reducing crate drop rates would have a substantial effect on gunfighting dynamics in PvP, I think.

  • It works, same as IB. It was just really slow before, it's been sped up though.

  • I don't come across it a =lot= but I think that's why it's effective to a point. It's not the most common tactic, so it works better than if people saw it everyday.

  • Even the blink combo is not the problem. I dont play any blink at all and still destroy everything with my random drop shotty with hammerforged, shotpackage and the refill on kill perk (dont know the english name). The problem clearly is the close to infinite ammo you have for you secondarys

  • That as well ! I'd love to see a variant with primaries only, preferably scouts (pretty much team swat) and without supers. They need better variants/maps. Pretty much why I only play combined arms. You don't get set on shitty close range maps so scouts and snipers are more useful. Too bad combined arms isn't always available. I hate Bungie's decisions with game variants and making most of them a limited time type of thing.

  • Small maps and a willingness to nerf weapons rather than add proper sized maps is the actual problem, not OP or UP weapons. That ends up dicking things up for the PVE people as well by extention. #nerfthenerfs

  • I fully agree though. But the topic is about the weapon itself, not the maps. However; the maps and the game variants are the biggest problems with PVP. Not the specific weapons themselves IMO. I almost always only play PVP when Combined Arms is available because the maps are spread out, and it has my two favorite game variants: Clash & Control. My play style shines there the most because I'm able to use scouts and snipers SO much more effectively because of the range. I prefer not playing agressive, which is essentially what every other map forced you to play. Because if you camp, or try to stay back away from the mess, it doesn't matter because of the maps being so small. It's almost guaranteed that someone will always run up on you within a couple seconds.
