You can be banned for AFKing a strike if you set your controller upside down or use a rubber band (or any such device) to avoid idle detection. Their ban policy says one possible reason for a ban is:
Using an external program or device to automate gameplay or circumvent idle detection
It also says you may not be fully banned from Destiny, but from the specific activity you were violating the policy in. (Aka banned from strikes, but you can still do raids/missions/crucible.)
My only question is how do you report it more specifically? The in-game reporting system doesn't have options for specific policy violations that should result in a ban/restriction.

Last week I did the heroic and got booted because of connection as Priest was about to die. Started it again and finished. Then started dragon strike and got the priest so I wasn't best pleased but I don't ever quit on one. One guy though just AFK until the very last second ended with no kills and got invective! I was so pissed I took a screenshot!
-
I just got done with this weeks level 32 heroic and had a level 33 go afk for about 95% of the strike Id rather solo the weekly heroics then have to carry some prick who wants to go afk instead of helping out.
-
If someone is afk I just continue. One person's idiocy isn't going to ruin my day. And it's omingal or however it's spelt, solar. If you can't solo it with the best burn weapons then... Idk, then...
-
It's becoming a problem for sure
-
I just wonder how many reports it takes
-
You can also be arrested for littering, but nobody ever is. Its just to hard to prove someone intentionally AFKed, or if they had an emergency during matchmaking and didn't have time to sign out.
-
I'll just follow you around and not kill anything
-
Yes you can if you get reported enough.
-
I'll still AFK
-
Eh, no. That rule pertains to 3rd party controllers/devices which are designed to manipulate normal game characteristics. Rubber bands don't qualify, but enough AFKing will get you banned from playing with others online. You can't ruin others experiences without running the risk of being caught/dealt with yourself.
-
I do it.. I'll sit, spin in circles, run into walls whatever I have to do to to portray a guy AFK.. Bungie forced matchmaking on me for the weeklies and I can't stand it I'd rather run solo so I do what I have to do to get people to leave.. So for me to get banned for that I completely disagree..
-
Technically going AFK doesn't mean they are using any sort of device to keep them playing... They are just Away From Keyboard

I farted...

Edited by o_SHADOWFAX_o: 5/1/2015 5:46:18 PMSo despite the stuff that REALLY needs attention with this game, they're now worried about players who simply sit-it-out during strikes. :-) Nice But here's my thing, in the 7 years to make and develop this game, no one with even a pinch of common sense ever posed such a question, when they were coming up with their REWARD THE LESSER GAMER RNG bullshit? YOU F'king MONKEYS CREATED THIS PROBLEM! Lol I've seen people show up at the end of a VoG raid (LITERALLY JUST 10 SECONDS LEFT TO GO IN THE MATCH) and that person got Vex and a few other treats. While others who started the mission got nothing. Why wouldn't those Gjally hungry guardians sit things out? Can these idiots get any more stupid? I mean really,....
-
What the hell does it matter if someone's afk . No extra minions and the level doesn't get harder so just play the game . Too many people are worried about what others are doing ,mind your business and move on .
this is a spoiler
-
I don't report anybody I ain't no snitch
-
I'll still report you
-
I actually got an email back from bungie for one of my reports. Not sure what came of it, but if you are afk when I got the first darkness zone I report you
-
Am I the only one who associates rubber banding with diablo 2 or diablo 3 lag? Lol
-
How is a rubber band not a "device to simulate game play"?
-
*afc away from controller
-
He iS right, however eventually they will check reports, I had a buddy who got banned for going ago for his daughter he got reported and like 2 weeks later was banned. Also they CAN ban u from the game to as you also violate the CoC.
-
There's a category for inactivity. But people are still AFKing iron banner.
-
Yes, there is a paragraph on this in one the semi-recent news posts, at least 3 weeks ago. They will ban habitual/constant AFK'ers and they know how to find them.

Edited by TheFrozenInferno: 5/1/2015 3:43:13 PMIt's pretty damn sad to see people AFK low level strikes, especially a day like today when the Walking Tall bounty is up. Afraid to fight Phogoth on the lowest difficulty as a 32? Come on. I report all AFK players, even if it never really amounts to anything.
