Friend mad because I called him fat? I need advice.

Hello everybody. I have a friend who I've known for maybe 3 years, I go to his house a lot and we play ps4 and xbox1 sometimes, but mostly we talk about girls. Anyways yesterday I was at his house and he was telling me how jealous he was of how I started dating a girl named Sue(Fake name). I went on to tell him "You know Brad(fake name), you could probably date girls as hot as the ones I date if you weren't so fat. I said it in a joking way but deep down I was hoping he got the message, to lose some weight. He's 5'9" and around 230lbs. He looked at me and said "wow, really dude?". Then he says he's tired and asks me to leave, so I go home and today I called him to hang out and he didn't pick up, and his mom said he left the house in the morning and hasn't come back. Maybe he went to get a gym membership LOL just kidding, but how can I make things right and also motivate him to lose weight?

  • Sounds like he might be a little insecure with his body weight. If he wants to lose body fat then he is first going to have to accept the fact that he is overweight and then make a mental commitment to change his ways. It's always easier to make that commitment if he has some one alongside him supporting him throughout the way. So if I were you, I would apologize to him and let him know that you didn't mean to hurt him. Also try to help set a good example, even if it means you have to change your own diet to reflect a healthier one. I would also try doing activities other than sitting inside all the time. Try inviting him to the park, throw a football or Frisbee around, or get a group together and go on a hike. Along the way make sure you never poke fun of him, or say anything that could be taken as an insult but always keep encouraging him. A healthy diet and different forms of exercise will be a good start. Hope that helps!
